How Reading "Eat, Pray, Love” in Bali Changed my Relationship with the ChakrasTop Story - July 2022
I’m reading the “Pray” section of the book “Eat, pray, love” which is based in India and it brings me straight back to my time learning yoga there. It’s quite fitting for me right now as I embark on a kind of homemade yoga retreat in Canggu, Bali.

Not Your Typical Mexican Food
On our walking tour of Oaxaca, we met a fantastic collection of people and we all met up for dinner that evening. Tommy, a brilliantly funny scouser ordered a famous Oaxacan dish, mole with turkey. It arrived at the table and he exclaimed:

The Petrified Waterfalls of Oaxaca, Mexico
The drive through the mountains was both breathtaking and vomit-inducing. I panickily pulled my stiff seatbelt whilst imaging the bus rolling over the edges of the cliff with my head bashing against the metal sides like a pinball.

The Trials of Trying to Conquer Mount Bromo Without a Tour
The First Trial “No, we don’t need a tour to do Mount Bromo! We don’t want to spend more time on a jeep than at the actual volcano, all crowded with loads of other tourists rushing around. No, let’s do it properly. I read a blog about how to get there on your own. It looks simple enough.” — Me

Xochimilco Canals — Party Down the Floating Gardens of Mexico City
Intro This was the one thing in Mexico City that I was truly excited for, the Xochimilco Canals. A boat party and I don’t mean the kind of boat party you might go on in Malia ala the Inbetweeners. No drinking fish bowls and throwing up overboard, before snogging a questionable stranger. No, I mean a Mexican Fiesta onboard a trajinera! Xochimilco is a world heritage site. The waterways are left over from what used to be a vast lake used for transportation during the pre-Hispanic period. It is a charming scene of intense greenery and the wetlands are a habitat for migratory birds.

Intro We were excited about a lot of things about Mexico but as avid foodies, the chance to try Mexican food in Mexico was the real deal. This was our first stop on the trip and we were ready to throw ourselves in head (mouth) first. Here are some of the most memorable food experiences in Mexico City.

A Postcard from the Teotihuacan Pyramids
Only an hour outside of Mexico City lies the Teotihuacan Pyramids, an impressive and vast archaeological complex. On the bus ride there, we passed giant cactuses and colourful favelas littering the green rolling mountains like discarded boxes of pastel smarties on a grassy lawn.

Mexico City — Expectations vs Reality
The announcement that you are heading to Mexico is often met with curiosity and excitement, but almost always with a tinge of fear and trepidation. Trembling lips quiver the sentiment to “be careful” and “stay safe”. I tried to bat these away with the news that we are traveling to some of the safest places in Mexico — Oaxaca, the Chiapas, and the Yucatan, the tourist hotspots. A sigh of relief follows the words, “Oh good! So, you’re not going to Mexico City then?” “Oh… erm… erm... well… about that…”

Intro Traveling solo I didn’t necessarily set out to “find myself” but rather to find out just what I could do if I put my mind to it. And it turns out that what you can do when you travel solo is pretty badass.
