Mark is a psychiatrist brother/friend of mine. He is fun, and funny and quite the adventurer. Years ago, he decided to take a vacation to Spain to see the traditional bull fighting. He went alone with a pass for seven major fights. This is the story Mark relates about his experience.

I Surrender All
My friend is Crow. She invited me to help a Native family round up their cattle from the Little Big Horn on the Crow Reservation. On our trip out to Montana we noticed an unusual number of bears. When we arrived at our base camp, we were startled to find a cow with her head knocked half off by the single swat of a very large bear. It was rumored that some bears from Yellowstone had been released into the Little Big Horn.

Intend Well
It had been a steaming hot summer in Oklahoma, but it would soon be followed by a cold, snowy winter. The mice were unusually busy on The Ranch. We decided to get a “barn cat” to help out with the mice. That seems like an ordinary idea to anyone living in the country. However, for us, the idea of making a cat sleep in the barn defies our bent for totally spoiling all our animals. However, we bucked up and firmly planted our intention upon getting a barn cat to deal with the mice.

Five Life Goals
I was a young woman finishing my graduate degrees at the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia. While I competed in many sports and excelled at swimming, I was innately a great runner. What made me great was that I refused to let anyone pass me. When someone got close to me in a race, something went off in my sense of overdrive and I kicked into high gear. I decided to find a coach, train, and go to the Olympic trials in Atlanta. The training went great and actually helped me better focus my work and studies. I was training for the 100-meter dash, in hopes of making it all the way to the Olympics in Munich.

The Trust Factor
Is it really fair to say, “I don’t trust that person”? Is it the total person that we choose to deny our trust? Or is it that we don’t trust certain behaviors the person displays? Said differently, “we have learned to actually TRUST that person to consistently behave in certain specific ways. Learning to TRUST people to “show up being themselves” requires much more of us as leaders than a blatant choice of “not trusting.” It requires that we assess all that we see, hear, and experience, and harvest the garden of others for behaviors that are useful for the whole of our teams, or those behaviors that will infect our team’s productivity and attitudes. In other words, THE TRUST FACTOR allows us to TRUST everyone to be exactly who they are!

Letter to Leaders
THIS LETTER IS DEDICATED TO GREAT LEADERS WHO HAVE LEFT THEIR THUMB PRINT ON MY LIFE: We have been blessed to work alongside of truly great leadership. These thoughts come from the experience of co-creating with our Leaders. As one has often said, “Our customers vote with their legs and their wallets.” It is our constant “opportunity” to deliver the WOW in all our services. This requires great leadership that focuses on action over position. Our greatest success comes as “exceeding expectations” becomes a way of life.

It's All About Relationships
“Let me know when you’re ready and I’ll start the clock." This is a common statement we make when we present our teams with “their first team challenge.” Invariably teams interpret “you” as themselves individually. They immediately divide into small pairs or groups to complete their task. The result is low scores in efficiency, accountability, appreciation, integrity, and quality. Only as we perform together as ONE TEAM do we experience high scores.
