A Cloud of Hair
Every night at midnight, the purple clouds came out to dance with the blushing sky. Up in her room, little Salacia stared out of the open window with a glimmer in her eyes. It was her favourite time of the day- the stars would twinkle like glitter scattered in the sky. The clouds would sway to the rhythm of the winds. The sounds of frogs in the nearby pond replaced the songbirds of the day, and twilight thrushes sang a sweet and melodic tune.

Evangeline
18th of February 2023 OM SCIENCES BUILDING Dr. Evangeline Stone’s Lab 2:37am Evangeline stood before the device with her arms crossed and a smug look on her face. She’d done it. She’d actually done it. Obviously, she couldn’t know for sure, but all the calculations were perfect. She’d spent the last fifteen years buried in this project; it had to work this time. As she stepped back and admired the beauty of the time machine before her, the door opened and her assistant rushed in.

Fishbone
"How are you feeling?" Doctor Macy ran her fingers through Ruby's hair, her eyes glistening with a sadness the little girl had grown accustomed to. It'd been a while since Ruby arrived in the children's ward. Diagnosed with a malignant brain tumour spreading like wildfire, Ruby often heard the doctors around discussing her case. They used big words Ruby didn't understand, but she could tell by watching. The way her aunt would clutch her chest and lean onto her brother. The way her father would wrap his arms around his sister, his shoulders hinting at the fear he was desperate to hide. The way they would smile at her, a smile forced through the pain Ruby knew they felt for her. Then they would tell her she had nothing to worry about.

Amara.
Gwendolyn walked down the scanty sidewalk, a depleting cup of warm coffee in one hand and a lit cigarette in the other. It was like any other evening- the air was cool and the breeze scattered dead leaves onto the street. She tossed her cup into a trash bin nearby and took a long drag, watching a group of high school kids as they walked past. Their laughter rang into the air, the sound sickly sweet and it gave her a headache. There was a time she envied their innocence. Born to a mother that endured an abusive relationship until her death, Gwendolyn was stripped of her childhood from an early age. Thinking back, how she had wished to live a normal life, go to school, get a job. Now, as she watched the neighbourhood children grow into young adults, she wondered if she would have been happy either way. Life was okay for some, shitty for most. If she'd had the opportunity to make her own choices, would her life have turned out a bit different?

The King of Veldrak
The sun hung low in the sky and the winds hummed a gloomy lullaby. It ruffled leaves from trees and feathers off crows, carrying with it the musky scent of the damp forest. The Forest of Zlatem held many secrets, some of which had been told in fairytales and legends passed down for centuries. Many of which, however, had yet to be unearthed.

The Dragon Mother's Child
"Long ago, there dwelled a nation called Jednota. It was a nation founded by the first of the Human Gods, for the Dragons of Veldrak in the North, Dwarves of Maltrpas in the West, and Elves of Loskria in the East. For centuries, these three countries lived harmonious and peaceful lives, their economies booming and cities flourishing. The dwarves traded wood with the elves, the elves traded silk with the dragons, and the dragons traded gems with the dwarves. In this thriving peace and solitude, the royal queen of Veldrak laid three eggs. The Dragons of Veldrak were ecstatic and the country was filled with joyous celebration.

The Broken Winged Bird Trilogy
"Run." The air was crisp, the night sky hanging low and heavy. I felt a sharp pain prick my lungs, pulling my consciousness toward every breath. The ringing in my ears made me aware of the eerie silence surrounding me. A bleak breeze flurried through the torn-up rags draped over my body and caused me to shiver, and rubbing gently at my bruised arms, I felt the goosebumps form on the surface of my skin.
