Natural Magic Ch. 22
Read Chapter 21 Here Miriam watched as Jo prepared her uncle's favorite tea set in the kitchen. Though Jo usually wore a short, dark-colored skirt, today she wore a long yellow robe with a green sash. Her hair, which she usually wore down, was folded in several curls and ringlets on top of her head. She even wore makeup. "What are you doing?" Miriam asked.

Natural Magic Ch. 21
Read Chapter 20 Here Tilli found the common strangely empty on Autun morning. She supposed this was due to Mun temples having service on the last day of the week. They were close enough the Nefralean coast that it was the dominant religion in the area. With Victoria House to herself, she collected her art roll from her room and spread her supplies on one of the tables.

Natural Magic Ch. 19
Read Chapter 18 Here Ayan stood in the Yub temple, where her mother had once been a priestess. She gazed at the dark halls and statues around her, thinking of her mother's coming of age, which had ended in her vows to the temple. A priestess in a royal blue robe and veil approached her. "How I may I help you, child?" She sniffed slightly as she said it, and Ayan got the impression this woman knew exactly who she was--the girl who had attempted to steal the princess's jewels.

Natural Magic Chapter 18
Read Chapter 17 Here The next morning, Matsias went with the girls into Shakif. They left early in the morning to take the train, which was about a thirty minute trip, and at a reduced fare for students. Though he and Key were the only members of the group who hadn't already been, Ayan and Miriam had only stayed overnight before taking the train to Faraday, so Tilli, who had been there often with her parents, served as tour guide.

Natural Magic Chapter 16
Read Chapter 15 Here Tilli supposed Key hadn't technically told them she was going to bed, but she had implied it, so Tilli was surprised to return to their room to find it empty. But with Key gone, Tilli was free to work on her artwork. Tilli wasn't sure why it bothered her to do art in front of Key. She had made that beautiful fox, after all. But she'd always been used to keeping her passion a secret. Not sure what, exactly, she wanted to draw, Tilli took a deep breath, held it for a moment, and let it go. Then she put charcoal to paper and let it guide her as she slipped into her thoughts.

Natural Magic Chapter 15
Read Chapter 14 Here After she left the table, Key went in search of Kaylee, who had waved to her as she walked by with a boy... at least, he looked like a boy--mostly. He had short black hair and a flat chest, but instead of wearing jeans, like most Faraday students, he had on a black skirt like Miriam usually wore, and multi-colored striped tights. She meekly followed them to their table. The boy saw her first and turned.

Natural Magic Chapter 13
Read Chapter 12 Here Listen to this Chapter Here As the third child in the family to be accepted to Faraday, Tilli had been bombarded with advice even before she submitted her application. Cadolina swore freshmen should make friends with upperclassmen as soon as possible, her father reminded her not to let her anger take control of her. Her mother suggested she speak up about her innovative ideas, and Sam told her that as long as she was true to herself, she would find her place in no time. At the end of the first week, Tilli couldn't say she had found her place, but she supposed she had found a place. Her group had been thrown together by circumstance, but they made for better dinner conversation than Sam and Caddie, who spent a lot of time trying to figure out which box she belonged in.

Natural Magic Chapter 11
Read Chapter 10 here Listen to This Chapter Here Key's final class was channeling objects. Most wizards found their natural gift easy to manipulate through intention, but more difficult workings could be made more manageable by using an object to direct the magic. Matsias arrived just before the class started and slid into the empty desk next to her, flushed but smiling. Something pulled in her stomach. She had seen Mats smile so little in the past year that she had almost forgotten what he looked like happy.
