The Sunset of My First Love
It was a moment that I didn’t want to end, but I knew it was going to. We watched the sunset on a majestic summer evening with a cool breeze flowing around us. The hue of orange, yellow turning to red and pink was remarkable. In that moment I thought about how lucky I was to share it with someone I loved. I turned to look at her and caught a glimpse of the sunset reflecting on her beautiful face. She was glowing and radiating just like that summer sun. She had this aura about her that embodied the essence of summer. She was free, and to me she was fleeting. I could only stop to admire her like I could the sunset and then she was gone. I was left amazed and bewildered at the same time and couldn’t understand why things had to end. In those days love was fleeting to me, it was always there until I reached for it. It faded like those sunsets on those summer nights.

Shadows of Paranoia
Horrified I wake up, my heart beating out of control, my eyes wandering in the dark and I see them. By them I mean the shadow people and they were there to kill me. I reach under my bed and grabbed my baseball bat that I used for home defense. I started swinging like a mad man, and screaming at those shadows. Truth is I was swinging at ethereal beings, and they laughed at me maniacally. I couldn’t get their damn laughs out of my head, they never spoke, they only laughed at me. Sometimes I woke up in a sleep paralysis and thought I was going to die. I could feel my chest tightening, my throat slowly being crushed by the shadows, and all of this while I was unable to fight back.

THE COCOON OF DESPAIR
I found myself traveling in a great forest full of awe and wonder at the nature around me. The trees were enormous and they blocked out the sun almost. The light flickered through the branches and leaves as the trees swayed in the wind. A gentle breeze followed me wherever I went as I walked along this untrodden path. I could see flowers, fruits and berries of all kinds glittering the forest.

Freya the Hope Giving Tree
This is a tale of love and of pain, of death and of life, but above all it is a tale of hope. The kind of hope and love people speak about with eyes brimming in the light. I am Freya and this is my story. I was planted 100 years ago and grew as a seedling into a giant oak tree. My bark strong enough to withstand the changing generations of humans and weather. I had a family to call my own, and they visited me often.

Stubborn Pride
When I was a child, I used to help my father out on the ranch, and he had this bull that captivated me from the moment I saw him. It was a strong, proud bull and he was king of his ranch. He was like a lion the way he walked with his head held high and the aura he carried himself with. That’s the kind of person I wanted to be like when I grew up, a strong and confident man.

Reflections in the Mirror
Every morning I wake up, go the bathroom, and look at myself in the mirror. Looking back at me is a lifeless man, a man devoid of joy, hope and purpose. I hated who I saw in that mirror and it was a constant reminder of why I wanted to die. Life seemed to run on repeat and I begged the universe for some kind of change. It happened in the form of a crazy old man, he looked like a wizard to me in his long robes, and his cane. He approached me out of the blue with a question, are you happy?

Inferno of Hate and Pain
I was told a long time ago that my purpose was to carry a torch and to keep that fire burning wherever I traveled. Oh, I saw some beautiful and magnificent places, I explored forgotten ruins, and I forged my own path. I was shown what humanity could be and its potential was limitless. I was a witness to the rise and fall of powerful kingdoms, glorious leaders, and masterful rulers. I watched technology advance to great lengths and quality of life improve for everyone.

THE POND OF THE FORGOTTEN
CW-Suicide In the summer I used to visit a pond to go fishing with my father, and to stare with bright eyes in wonder at the turtles there. Those were some of the best days of my life and I remember being filled with joy and happiness at the time. In the winter that pond froze over, and my family went out ice-skating, it was our little secret hide out that few in town knew about. That was back when we were still a family, before the divorce, before the bitterness and loneliness became a part of my life. I had such light in my life then, and aspired to be great, to make a difference. To be a hero, and save someone's life because that is what I was taught to strive for growing up.

My lighthouse in the Storm
I was overwhelmed, lost and tattered. I had found myself in this horrific, raging storm that had no end in sight. My only source of hope was that glaring green light in the distance and it shined brighter than the sun to me. I was alone trudging my way through this storm the best I could with my goal being to reach that lighthouse. Until one day I came upon a cave and found refuge from the storm. I didn’t know how long I would be there but I was glad to have found shelter even for a moment.

The Unplanted Flowers
April showers bring May flowers, I always loved seeing spring come to life every year. The beautiful and colorful flowers, and the smells of heaven in the air. Watching things bloom always brought hope and reminded me that I could bloom like that too. I loved putting in the yardwork, gardening and watching my plants grow with love and nutrients.
