The Core
Her eyes lifted amidst the flurry of freezing air rushing around her gasping as she inhaled the bitter cold. The door above her slowly lifted and dozens of tubes disconnected from her arms and legs. She was locked inside of an old lab with dust covered monitors & equipment. The word ‘veto’ & the command to keep the heart shaped locket around her neck close to her sprang into her slowly waking memory. She reached for the locket, relieved as she felt the cold steel hanging loosely upon her chest.

How To Call Upon A Titch
“The grass is too green here I can’t stand it.” These were the last words Erin had from her parents which were written on a piece of paper. She found the note on the floor of their bedroom and held it dear ever since. The paper helped Erin remember they were real and even more so, that they’d come back for her. Her grandmother was now her caregiver never mentioning what happened to Erin’s parents. Grandma Ruthie was not the type to bring up or speak of unpleasant things. She was white haired, sharp tongued and extremely loving. She worked in a small library in the middle of town and thoughtfully brought home a book for her granddaughter to read every week. She noticed with every book that Erin read, her happiness returned setting the tradition in stone.

I walked into my dealership’s auto shop being met with friendly greetings and large smiles. As always, I saw my advisor handed over my car keys and made my way to the waiting area. I picked a seat off to myself where I could remove my mask and enjoy my slightly cold breakfast sandwich and coffee.

The Mysterious Memoir of Madame Taper
The air was unseasonably cold forcing its way into the tiniest of places invading every home that afternoon. As the unwarranted chill was received so was the news of her grandmother’s passing. Her granddaughter sat by the open flame of her fireplace recalling every moment they had spent together. Her grandmother was effortlessly demure and mysteriously beautiful, a legacy she somehow had to follow. Tears that she’d forced herself to control came flowing in abundance for she had tried to remain brave for her Mother who seemed to take the news all too well. The lavishly decorated home was her grandmothers and as such, anything but quaint. Every room was full of priceless trinkets, handmade furniture, and luxury goods that only a lover of beautiful things would recognize. The muffled noise from a nearby television halted her darkened thoughts, it was a taped interview of her grandmother accepting her title of “Sexiest Woman Alive” from Genealogy Magazine. She focused her attention on the screen. Her grandmother sat across a handsome gray-haired man in a neatly pressed gray suit and tie.
