Sewers Are Clogged Everywhere. Can Robots Help Clean Them?
In South Asia, thousands of people perform the dangerous job of diving into underground sewers to clear blockages. However, a robot called the Bandicoot has been developed to replace human divers. It has four legs, four cameras, and a carbon fiber body capable of lifting heavy loads. The Bandicoot can access areas that were previously only reachable by human hands. Sewer blockages are a global problem, affecting both South Asian countries and wealthy cities in the global North. The worsening sewer conditions can lead to serious consequences if not addressed. Early civilizations had open sewers, but things began to change during the Industrial Revolution when urban populations grew and diseases like cholera spread. Cholera claimed millions of lives in the 19th century.

Why fake punches in movies looks so real
The other day, I had the opportunity to watch the movie "Shang-Chi," and I was truly captivated by the exhilarating fight sequence that took place on the bus. What amazed me the most was how the filmmakers were able to create such a visceral and authentic experience without causing any harm to the actors or crew involved. While I understand that the punches and kicks were not real, they were executed in a way that made them feel incredibly genuine. This left me curious about the techniques used to achieve such a convincing portrayal. Being a second unit director and stunt coordinator myself, I decided to reach out and inquire about the behind-the-scenes process. Wade Eastwood, a highly skilled professional in the world of action movies, is the individual responsible for the impressive stunts in "Shang-Chi" and other notable films from the past decade. It's important to note that Wade Eastwood is not related to other well-known Hollywood figures with a similar last name. One of his notable appearances was in the 2008 film "Quantum of Solace," where he served as Daniel Craig's stunt double. However, before Wade even sets foot on the movie set, he and his team engage in extensive preparation and pre-visualization. You might be familiar with VFX pre-vis, which Marvel is known for, where low-fidelity animations are created prior to filming. In addition to that, stunt teams often utilize what I refer to as "action vis." This involves capturing live footage using the appropriate cameras to accurately depict the action sequences.

Why you’re probably not doing your Dream Job
When you were 15, what job did you expect to have at 30? A writer, singer, or teacher. I asked this question to colleagues, but for more than 20 years it's been asked to millions of teenagers worldwide. Given that this is a question that can provide insight into how generations of people think about the future, it's important to know what job they expect to be doing at 30. A lawyer, journalist or managing a production company are all possibilities. Looking at all the different jobs 15 year old had in the year 2000, medical doctor was the top choice. The chart also shows that there are many other options available, like athletes, decorators, and military officers. Low on the list was jobs like pharmacist and real estate agent. Parents are often worried about their kids following in their footsteps, but a recent study found that nearly half of all kids will do the same ten jobs by the time they're adults.
