meeting Elmo + friends w/ cerebral palsy! ❤️
Every single morning our 2 year old's morning routine includes watching Elmo. More specifically, her favorite little segment with Cookie Monster and Gonger in their foodie truck. She knows every character's names. She has her favorite episodes memorized down to the hand movements. We didn't have to think twice when it came to deciding how we could spend her special day for her 2nd birthday! ✨
what having a child with a disability has taught me 🌱
It has been the most beautiful 8 years of my life being Abby's mom. Sometimes thinking about those 8 years feels like it has been a whole lifetime. Sometimes it feels like it all went by so fast in a blink of an eye. I became Abby's mom at 17 years old. To say she has taught me everything I know now would be an understatement.
what to say when you see a child with a disability 💭
A couple of years ago, I uploaded a vlog all about What Not To Say To A Parent Of A Child With A Disability. To be transparent.. when I uploaded that video, the reality that things were going to look differently than I had imagined had just set in. For context, some of the sayings in that video:
the mom i've always wanted to be
Hey Mom. I never told you this before, but ... all that I am is because of all that you were not. I do not tell this story very often - mainly because I spent 16 years of my life trying to escape the reality I was born into. At the peak of my 16th year, I stood in front of a judge and pleaded to have myself finally set free. At 16 years old, I was legally pronounced as emancipated. There were many reasons why this was necessary for my mental, emotional, and physical health. The biggest take away that I received from those 16 years of knowing you, was each and every thing I would never put my own family through.

Hi! Welcome back! 🌱 We are always asked about Abby's crutches - "'When were they introduced to her?' 'How did she learn to use them?' 'Where did we purchase them from?'" Today is the day where we share it all!
A Rainbow Bedroom Makeover 🌈
My little girl, Abby, has been sharing a bedroom with her siblings for most of her life. We have moved 7 times in her 7 years and it was very overdue for Abby to have her own special space. We decided to turn our office into her bedroom and she could not be happier! ✨

I feel like an introduction was the only way to start in this new space ... So, hi there! Welcome! 🌱 My name is Emily and that beautiful girl standing next to me is Abby!
