False Gods by Graham McNeill
False Gods by Graham McNeill is book 2 in the Horus Heresy series and continued directly on from book 1 - Horus Rising. Once again I am absolutely blown away by the level of character detail maintained in this book. Despite being written by a different author, McNeill has managed to seamlessly preserve and develop the key characters from the first. Loken and the others of the Mournival are presented with some incredibly difficult situations and McNeill does a wonderful job of challenging and growing these characters as the sinister nature of the Heresy takes root.

Soul Hunter by Aaron Dembski-Bowden
Warning - this review contains some minor spoilers in the form of plot outlines, though no key details are revealed. Having recently purchased the reprinted collectors' edition of the Night Lords trilogy, it seemed like an ideal time to leap into this highly acclaimed series by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. As an aside, the book itself is absolutely stunning to behold with a cloth-covered binding and gold lettering on the front cover and spine. The legion's icon has also been laminated onto the front cover and looks appropriately foreboding. The pages themselves are edged with a very eye-catching blue and white lightning bolt, and inside you have a full-size version of the original paperback cover art.

Bloodlines by Chris Wraight
Released under the Black Libraries' Warhammer Crime division, Bloodlines by Chris Wraight is an absolute masterpiece of the genre. Something I find incredibly difficult about writing a crime story in the Warhammer universe is that, by its very nature, the Imperium is a heartless, crime-filled expanse. Why would this make things challenging? Well, because when almost every novel released is practically a crime novel, writing something that warrants separation into its own subcategory needs to be pretty impressive or risk being lost in the crowd.

Wandering Through Japan - Gotenba Premium Outlet
It was a relatively warm Autumn day, something we had been seeing a lot more of recently, though it held the threat of rain with a few dark clouds in the sky. Given these two factors, I thought an outdoor shopping centre might be the best of both worlds, especially since it had been well over a year since I last visited the Gotenba Outlet and had heard rumours that they had recently finished off a new development.

Wandering Through Japan - Shiraito Nature Park
On my way to Shiraito No Taki, the first location for my physical letter subscribers, I noticed that there was a signpost announcing the existence of Shiraito Nature Park. Not being one to miss out on a chance to explore, after visiting the waterfall my wife and I started to follow the marked path further up the hill.

Wandering Through Japan - Gotenyama
If you are anything like me, then at some point in your life you have likely been sitting in a train or driving along when in the distance you see something that catches your eye. You then tell yourself that one day you will travel off the beaten path and go to that place. Today was one of those rare moments when I actually went to such a place, though I hope to have such moments more frequently with my new travel plans in place!
