Forgotten Quests: The Original Xbox
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I dive into the maligned and forgotten and see what I can dig up. On 15 November 2001, Microsoft released the original Xbox. It was a gamble to be sure. The prior time an American console was released (the Atari Jaguar) was a massive failure. However, Microsoft had the strongest machine ever designed at the time, bold plans for an online infrastructure, and a big green guy named Master Chief to get people interested. While the sixth console generation ended with the Playstation 2 as the de facto champion, the Xbox's strong second place finish encouraged Microsoft to stay in the console market.

My Favorite Forgotten Stephen King Books
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where I'm brave enough to give another look at the maligned and forgotten. It's hard to believe that the foremost horror author of modern times Stephen King has been writing for over fifty years now. I first got into him thanks to the movie The Shining. I know he didn't like Kubrick's adaptation, but it did get me to read the book. And guess what? They're both awesome, just in different ways!

Beyond K-Pop
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I give a voice to the maligned, forgotten, and ignored. The Korean music scene has been on a hot streak for the last few years. This is attributed entirely to the genre known as "K-pop," South Korea's equivalent of the "J-pop" that Japan had pushed into anime fans' iPods for decades now. One of the biggest successes in music video history came thanks to Park Jae-sang, known to the world as "Psy," whose music video for the song "Gangnam Style" went viral to the point that, as of this writing, it has been viewed 3.2 BILLION (that's with a "B") times, making it one of the most watched videos in history. While subsequent international success eluded Psy, the group known as BTS took the ball and ran with it, becoming the most successful Korean act ever.

'Ghost in the Shell': When Live Action and Anime Don't Mix
I've been known for keeping an open mind when it comes to movies. I have been pleasantly surprised more than once, and even the bad stuff at least gives me experiences worth talking about. Such is the case when my girlfriend and I sat down to watch the 2017 live adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. The original anime from 1995 would show up on both of our lists of the greatest animated films of all time. Needless to say, we were likely to be very critical, and it didn't take long for things to come up that angered us. I wouldn't go so far as to call the live action version the worst movie ever or anything; as far as I'm concerned, nothing's worse than The Black Dahlia. However, its issues absolutely disgusted me.

The "Epic" Playlist
Hello, and welcome back to Silver Linings where I rattle off the best of... well... whatever I feel like. I love music. I think I established that over the past year since I actually went to bat for Lionel Richie and John Barry's film scores. I can find something to like in just about every era and genre. I've used many words to describe songs over the years, but there's one word I've used that I don't think gets used often enough. That word is "epic".

'A View to a Kill' - Roger Moore's Last Mission
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances where my mission is to spotlight the unfairly maligned and ignored. Back when I looked at the scores of John Barry (a composer best known for his work with the James Bond movie franchise), I chose to highlight the music from the 14th official entry in the franchise, 1985's A View to a Kill. I mentioned that it is my favorite movie in the series to this day. I knew I was going to have to explain myself since this one constantly shows up near the bottom of other fans and critics' official rankings of the Bond movies. Even the star Roger Moore was quick to dismiss it. I just can't agree, though; I love it! I know part of my affection for it is nostalgia; A View to a Kill is actually the first Bond movie I ever saw when I was just 7-years-old. However, that isn't the whole reason. Does it have problems? Absolutely. Do those problems hurt the film? In some ways. Does it have good stuff in it? Hell, yeah!

Where Are They? 10 Dead Franchises Due for Another Shot
Hello, and welcome back to Second Chances. Now, normally this column is all about talking about something that deserves another chance to shine, whether movie, album, game, or even vacation spot. However, in light of my first project with Braindamage Games (follow my girlfriend & my studio's progress here), I decided to broaden my scope this time. See, there are plenty of holes in game libraries these days due to established franchises just... stopping. A healthy gamer can't survive on shooters alone. As the studio begins work on something to fill a void left behind by a dead IP, I decided I wanted to take a moment to give my take on dormant franchises that deserve another chance on the sales charts.
