What Are the Risks of Severe Injuries from Nunchucks?

Nunchucks

By Mai SophiaPublished 6 months ago 4 min read

Nunchucks, also known as nunchaku, were weapons used by legendary martial artist and movie hero Bruce Lee. They consist of two wooden sticks connected by a chain or rope and are held to the side of the body with one hand. The sticks can be swung at an opponent in a wide arc. This weapon was invented in 17th-century Japan. The chain is used to increase the speed and power of the weapon but it also has an extra purpose.

The two sticks can be swung in any direction, making nunchaku a difficult weapon for most opponents to guard against. The chain is also used as an additional striking tool and allows the user to trap his opponent's weapon or clothing before striking him. Bruce Lee popularized this in America with his movie "Enter the Dragon" (1973). They were made illegal in most U.S. states in 1985 after martial arts expert Thomas Noonan accidentally killed a man with them during a demonstration at a California State Fair.

Risks Associated with Nunchucks:

Nunchucks have been around for a long time as a martial arts weapon. Despite this tradition, the recreational use of nunchaku has only recently caught on. The biggest reason for this is that they are legal to own and carry in America because they are classified as sporting weapons and not weapons of mass destruction. These come with some serious risks associated with them, however, so it's important to understand what these risks are before buying or using them:

1. Hip Fluid Injuries

Hip fluid injuries are possible when using a device with a rotating chain, which is what many nunchucks contain. For those who don't know, hip fluid injuries come from hitting your hip or leg hard enough that the fluid around the joint is jarred upward.

When this happens, the hip loses its normal amount of blood in an area where it needs to be unusually thick (the deep tissues of the hip). This clotting causes damage to the soft tissues in both hips and legs. It can also occur if you are already suffering from chronic arthritis in one side of your body.

2. Head and Neck Injuries

The rapid rotation of these weapons can lead to whiplash-type injuries if you are not careful. For example, a completely out-of-shape person may twist their body in such a way that jars their head, thus causing the neck to damage itself. Additionally, you can do this to yourself by whipping your nunchucks around too quickly or trying to hit a target that is too far away for your skill level or strength. This will hurt no matter what.

3. Finger Injuries

Finger injuries occur because of improper holding of the nunchucks while practicing with them. For example, you may find yourself gripping the nunchucks too tightly, thus squeezing your fingers. If you do this long enough, your finger joints can be deformed, making it very difficult to use them again in the future.

4. Damage to Internal Organs

The chain of a nunchaku or other rotating chain device will cause small cuts to your skin if it is hit hard enough or becomes stuck. These cuts are not harmful in and of themselves; however, they can cause damage if they get stuck in an internal organ such as the esophagus or lungs. It may even cause injury or death if it gets stuck in a major artery.

5. Damage to Motor Vehicles

Finally, be sure not to use your nunchucks near something that can hurt them or be hurt by them. Of course, you want to be smart and avoid swinging them near anyone's head or neck.

Additionally, you should never attempt to use your nunchaku on a tree or rock—doing so will likely result in damage that will render the weapon unusable for some time. What's more, is that these weapons can be dangerous when used on an automobile or other motor vehicle because they can damage the window glass and leave shards of broken glass in the car if they happen to break while doing so.

Be Careful while Using Nunchaku!

Nunchucks consist of two sticks connected by a length of chain or rope. The sticks can either be made from wood, metal like steel or brass - or plastic with foam ends. They were originally used as primarily a weapon in feudal Japan, but many martial arts schools across the world now teach the use of these weapons for self-defense and demonstrations instead. To use these weapons carefully, and learn the correct techniques is very important.

Improper use can lead to serious injury for the user and their attacker. The main purpose of learning how to use these weapons is for self-defense purposes. They can be used as an impact weapon in a confrontation with another person, but they can be used as a blocking weapon also.

These weapons are very effective when used with other weapons such as a handgun or knife, especially if you are ambushed by several attackers on a dark street at night. You can swing your nunchucks around your head protecting yourself from all angles, and hopefully injuring or distracting one of the assailants long enough for you to get away safely.
