The Gallery Walk

Poetry

By Byron LoderickPublished 22 days ago 1 min read

This piece, is it the original or a copy?

I'm not sure, which one do you think?

I believe it's the first, though he abandoned it for some time.

I’m drawn to the figure on the far right, gazing up.

Why that one?

Her expression is serene, as if she’s transcended the room.

It’s like she’s drifting in another world.

Did you ever indulge in painting?

I dabbled, long ago.

What made you stop?

Life got in the way. Responsibilities, losses.

Yet the yearning to create never fades.

My father would watch me, silent and still.

It's curious how art can immobilize us.

I felt that stillness when I saw him last, unmoving.

Art and life, both hold a trace of trepidation.

I’m drawn to the figure on the far right, gazing up.

There’s an echo of that same trepidation in her eyes.
