The Artist

A story about creation

It was a calm sorta day in the art district that lay in the downtown of the city. Everyone was out in the streets and the sound of chatter danced in the air. The sun was up finally sparkling in the sky after a long gloomy winter and a gentle breeze floated through the air. The smell of fresh paint was floating around the streets and drifting slowly into people's minds. It was the perfect calm in the storm of life. A needed break when everything in life feels like it's in absolute turmoil. A calm that wouldn't last but is a much-needed break.

To just pick up a paintbrush and forget about the rest of the world. It's a feeling that not many get a chance to feel when the fear traps them and they begin to believe the lie that they could never be creative enough to be an artist. But these teens who lived downtown were full of joy with their paint brushes in hand and spray cans in their backpacks running around the streets waiting for any chance they get to create a mural that would last a lifetime. They didn't have a vision for their life or know where they wanted to go. But they knew they had a passion for art and wanted to live that out.

If only there was a place they could fit in and not be in trouble for being who they are. What if there was a city where graffiti was legal and our imaginations could run wild and be free? Imagine a place where there was no fear of the police busting you as you were in the middle of your next masterpiece. Not having to feel the guilt of doing wrong for doing what is right in your mind. The beauty of art seems to be lost but it could come back stronger than ever. We could once again be free and lost in our imaginations if there was a city that would embrace the culture of art.

We have so many paths of art we can begin a journey on. Will you use words, colors, or music to describe the feelings that are lost inside your mind? We all have an outlet and a way to release but the choice of yours is if you will use it or not. You may not know what it is yet but it is there waiting for you to reach out and grasp it. The artist inside of us is dying to be free and dying to be seen. I won't ever suppress or hold you back for being the realest version of you. I want to see you in your authentic state holding nothing back for the world to see.

An artist is never truly free. We are always fighting ourselves from the inside out. A constant turmoil in our lives and our hearts. But when the sun is out and we are free to roam the streets, we become free. Maybe just for a moment; but that moment of freedom is all we need to be alive. Imagine just for a second the mural you want to create and just envision it coming to life and the feeling of seeing it complete. Just imagine that feeling, and make it come to life.
