The Mandala of Compassion: Respect Women More
One winter, I received an email from my friend who was finishing a book on a Japanese author but needed help, so I asked me. I told him that Yasujiro Ozu was one of my favorite directors because he focused on women and often told the story from their point of view. I grew up in Japan and feel many do not understand what they see when they watch Japanese cinema. I wrote a couple of chapters. The following is an excerpt.

Broken Snowman
You ever try to build a snowman with snow that doesn't want to stick? That's how I feel all the time. A snowman can only be built with wet, heavy snow. If you live in a part of the world where there isn't snow, there is a reason there are not new snowmen built all the time all winter long all over where there is snow. The weather conditions have to be correct. Most of the time, the snow isn't fit for building. It would be like making bricks with dry dirt as opposed to mud; it just falls appart. I am the snow that falls apart.

Beyond the Hero's Return
There are moments in life that leave us speechless. The birth of a child. A total solar eclipse. Standing beneath a sky filled with stars so vast and luminous that, for an instant, every worry disappears. In these moments, language falls away. Explanations feel inadequate. We are not simply observing the universe. The universe is witnessing itself through us.
