The Tanjore district in Tamilnadu, Southern India is famous for its stunning Maratha art and architecture.

From all forms of Indian paintings,  Tanjore paintings  are considered as the most popular form of primitive paintings.The two major communities which practiced this art form were the Naidus from Madurai and the Rajus from Thanjavur.  Materials like glass, wood, and mica, as well as some unusual mediums like murals, ivory and manuscripts were used for the paintings.Slowly and gradually, Tanjore painting is becoming famous all over the world.

Small Ivory portraits were typically worn as cameo pendants called rajaharam and were quite popular. These paintings come in three finishes classic, embossed, and unique.
