art.
This is the 3rd poem I ever wrote. It was written and performed last year for an event at a local art gallery that closed its doors after being open to the public for 20 years.
What is art?
Art is life.
Life is art.
Life is BEAUTIFUL.
Art is beautiful.
What is beauty?
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,
Whose life can become beholden upon beholding the beauty of art.
But hold!
Can only art that can be held be art that can be beheld..ed?
Can the beholden not uphold the beauty of art,
Not just by holding the art in hands, but also in thoughts, in part?
Of course they can!
Don’t think about it too hard.
Because art is art!
Just Imagine if your imagination
Got permission to take a mini vacation
To a world that was filled with time.
Time to waste,
Time to spare,
Spare a thought
That you can share
With the rest of the world
When you got back
From the frenzy of imagination attacks.
After you’ve had sufficient time to think,
Think about the ideas that you’d bring
To life in this world…
Would it be with the stroke of a brush
That you’d show the world the lush
Creations of a vivid brain?
Or maybe you could train your tongue…
To learn limericks and poetry and recite it at parties for fun!
I’ve heard people like that are great company, by the way :)
Perhaps you can twist your hips
Or give a flick of the wrist
As you move your lips
And quickly flip the mood
Of anyone lucky enough to hear you!
Or, if you’re good with your fingers
Take your time and linger
With a lump of clay
That waits for you to play,
Mold, Shape, and form its entire existence!
Maybe It's even a possibility
That the entirety of your creativity
Can be BLOWN UP
Into a show of tranquility
As your redirect your anger
About insensitivties…
Into scripts?
Or MAYBE…
You’re a minimalist.
…
I guess what I’m trying to say is,
Art is art.
It’s an expression of who YOU are.
And whether we realize it or not
We create masterpieces on a daily basis,
Simply by letting our imaginations run wild.
Even if we keep it to ourselves.
Not every artist is a public one.
Nor every beholder beholden to an art piece.
But don’t ever let that get in the way
Of filling this world with the mess of ideas going through your beautiful head.
Always Foster the arts.
Always Breed creativity.
One day,
that might be the only thing we have left.
