Some people justify not protecting their online activity with things like "I have nothing to hide" have you tried something like "I have nothing to show" instead? Just because you can, and it's your business, unless it goes to your Facebook feed, usually that's how people make things public and what you do with your browser shouldn't be.

You have the right to privacy, unfortunately this is something that many people don't take seriously. This right gets violated once, twice and too many times to count. It doesn't change the fact that it's a right we must all fight for. It's no secret this would be a very difficult fight to win but it honestly doesn't help if we don't try.

Who

Everyone should protect their online data and identity online. This is of course if we're considering the fact that everyone uses the internet. Only those who use the internet should protect whatever they do and make sure it remains private. But online protection or better said privacy is not what we preach about everyday.

Using a VPN does not make you completely anonymous. It keeps your identity private to the majority and vulnerable to only a certain number of people. I am obviously exaggerating but if this isn't true it is at least close to it.

When

We should protect ourselves every time we surf the web. It is an obvious fact that we need to be protected anywhere and everywhere but, since we're talking about the internet we should make sure we're protected before we go online, or rather prepare our environment so that we browse the internet safely.

Why

"Because I said so" usually something an angry mom would say to their naughty kid, right? Anyway, this isn't about doing the right thing or what's best or ideal for you or whoever chooses to protect themselves online. This is about having a choice and being able to use the right to privacy how you please.

There are more ways to privacy and third party software isn't the only way, the ideal way or the best way to browse the world wide web. It is all a matter of choice and of course responsibility.

Can We Use The Internet Without a VPN?

Can you leave the house without locking the door? Bad example? I thought as much but yes it is possible. But we have to remember that a lot goes online and we must focus on our priorities. We're not running away from the online world all together because going offline would be more effective.

Our browsers nowadays have built in ad blockers and trackers to keep such things away. Our connections to websites are now encrypted it is no longer clear text "http". So it's not like you don't need to keep your identity private but it's something you can get away with. Because in the end you have to prioritize. If you only use the internet on your PC for this website only would you be safe?

Would someone else who uses the internet the same way you do benefit more from being under a VPN tunnel? Who exactly are you protecting yourself from? How bad is it for your ISP to know that you use or read content on Vocal media?

Browsers like Brave have Social Media blockers to help us with our online experience. This isn't all we need but it is one way to reduce tracking.

Initially this would cover only the usual and common features we get from our browsers but since I've used some of Brave's features it is only fair to add one more which isn't common for a separate browser. This is the first I've seen which is the option to open a tor tab using Brave.

Features like these including Opera's built in VPN help you browse safely. Are these the best practices? No! Not at all but these work as well. Making yourself less vulnerable is better than doing nothing at all. Protect yourself and data online it's a matter of choice make sure you're aware of that. Forget complete anonymity for a second remember why you're protecting yourself in the first place.
