Teleportation Is Real, and It is Going To Change The World!

Quantum Physics To The Rescue

By Bleeding EdgePublished 2 years ago 3 min read

What if you could travel to the country of your choice in just 1 click? If that was possible, your train of thought would be, Let's go to Switzerland, no Iceland…you know what, let's go everywhere. Teleportation is a common part of science fiction characters but is it achievable?

The pandemic has been hard on us and forced us to step out only when it is absolutely necessary. But you know what, Teleportation can be the perfect thing for you. And Earth is not the limit, you can put on a suit and some oxygen cylinder and you can just teleport to the moon…Elon Musk, you there?😃

But as far as we know, everyone told us while watching science fiction, this is not possible but you know what they are not entirely correct.

So, What is Exactly Teleportation??

Teleportation in simple language is going from one place to another instantaneously. So, you can reach from place A to place B without traveling the physical space between them. Basically, there are three types of teleportation

  1. The one where you instantly move one object from one location to another by maybe some loophole in space-time fabric…(have to wait for wormholes!)
  2. The one where you destroy the object at one end and create exactly the same at other end.
  3. The one where you send the information…like every bit of information at other end where someone will create it using that information.

Teleportation has never been realized till now coz traveling without traversing the physical space violates the Newtons Laws.

Let's understand quantum entanglement…

Firstly, what are quantum particles? These are the particles at the subatomic level and reality here is well very different than your day-to-day life. Entanglement happens when 2 particles are created together. They are like twins and their twinning can stretch across space and time. It's like if we know a state of one particle we can tell what the other is doing without really looking into the other i.e. they are mimicking each other's action at a distance even though there is no physical connection between the two. The behavior of one particle is entangled with the other. All the Bollywood fans might remember Judwaa film(yehi ho raha hai yaha par :\). So the first question that pops into mind is How?…Well no one knows. This is the reason Einstein termed this phenomenon as "Spooky Action at a Distance".

Quantum Teleportation has been done by Chinese Scientists for real. But the only drawback is that it is quantum i.e. they transferred data and not humans. What they did was they beamed photons from the ground to a satellite orbiting above the Earth, and then messed with them using quantum entanglement.

So you would think that why not to transfer data with this for now and yes, many companies are working on this. Think of this like there are 2 particles, one with the receiver and another with the sender. Now, the receiver just changes the property from his end which directly affects the particle at sender's end…I know, its spooky but has a brilliant application attached to it. This will result in amazing privacy. You don't have to worry about security as no one knows how this phenomenon is taking place.

This will bring its own drawbacks with it. Although this has unimaginable application and you can travel from 1 km to 1 light year instantaneously, you have to first travel to that place to deploy the portal. Imagine you can go anywhere and in a matter of seconds. This will transform the universe and how we perceive its existence. The possibilities of quantum teleportation look more and more promising as new milestones are reached.

Scientists haven't succeeded in teleporting an object. It's very hard to make entangled pairs of big piles of particles and have them stay entangled long enough for the transfer of that object to a distant place. So far only the quantum states of photons or electrons have been transferred. Sure this feels a bit far-fetched at this point in time but who knows, maybe one day we can meet with each other in just a snap of fingers. One day we can just say Beam Me Up, Scotty…Chills!!
