Step 2) Manually rename the folder containing QuickBooks company files

  • On the keyboard, press Windows + E keys to open the Windows File Explorer.
  • Access the QuickBooks folder using the following path: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks
  • In the folder, look for the folder named Company Files and right-click it.
  • Choose the Rename option.
  • Add the word ‘old’ at the end of the folder’s name.

  • Right-click the Windows Task Bar and choose the Task Manager option.
  • In the Processes tab, select the Name column header to sort the list.
  • Choose the following QuickBooks processes and then End process for each one by one: QBDBMgr.exe, QBDBMgrN.exe, Qbw32.exe, QBCFMonitorService.exe.
