Solution 1) Run the Quick Fix my Program tool from the QuickBooks Tool Hub

  • At first, download the latest version of the QuickBooks Tool Hub (1.4.0.0) on the computer.
  • Select the downloaded QuickBooksToolHub.exe file and follow the instructions you see on the screen to start installing it.
  • Give consent to terms and conditions to finish the installation of the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  • Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub and go to the Program Problems tab.
  • Choose the Quick Fix my Program option and let the tool run.
  • Once the tool resolves the issues, open QuickBooks Desktop and try to open the company file.

Solution 2) Use the QuickBooks File Doctor tool to repair the damaged company file data

  • Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub you have downloaded in solution 1.
  • Go to the Company File Issues tab and then choose the Run QuickBooks File Doctor option.
  • Once QuickBooks File Doctor opens, click on the Browse option to search the company file (with the .qbw extension).

Note: To access the folder containing company files, you need to navigate to the following path: C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files.

  • Choose the Check your file option and then hit the Continue button.
  • Type the admin password of QuickBooks and then hit the Continue button to start the File Doctor tool.
  • Once the tool completes its task, choose the company file from the list and then click on the Open QuickBooks option.

Step 1) Use a wildcard search to find the location of the backup company file:

  • Open the Windows Start menu and type *.qbb into the search bar.
  • Make a note of the location of the backup company file.

Step 2) Restore the backup company file

  • Open the QuickBooks Desktop application, choose the File menu, and select the Open or Restore Company option.
  • Choose the Restore a backup copy option and then hit the Next button.
  • Select the Local Backup option and then hit the Next button.
  • Now, select the backup company file using the location you have noted down above.
  • Choose a folder where you want to save the restored company file and then select the Open option.
  • At last, hit the Save button.

Solution 4) Use the Auto Data Recovery feature to recover the company file

  • On the desktop, you need to create a folder named “QBTest”
  • Press Windows + E keys together on the keyboard to open the File Explorer.
  • Open the folder containing company files by navigating to the following path:C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Intuit\QuickBooks\Company Files
  • In the Company Files folder, look for the .tlg file and copy it.
  • Now, paste the copied .tlg file to the QBTest folder.
  • Open the Company Files folder again, look for the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery folder and open it.
  • Search the .qbw.adr file, copy it and then paste it to the QBTest folder.
  • Open the QBTest folder and right-click the .qbw.adr file.
  • Choose the Rename option.
  • Delete “.adr” at the end of the filename.
  • Open the QuickBooks Desktop application and go to the File menu.
  • Select the Open or Restore Company option from the drop-down menu.
  • Choose the Open a company file option and then hit the Next button.
  • Now, choose the company file that is saved in the QBTest folder and hit the Open button.
