In the race to own your own TV, LG has a clear advantage this year, and the C1 is the crown jewel of a decade of dominance. As successor of one of the best TVs last year, LG C1 OLED remains one of the best TVs for the price. It lacks the new OLED EVO panel in the G1 OLED but even in its absence still produces a colorful, bright, rich image that supports most HDR types.

This isn't as bright as the new and improved LG G1 and Sony OLED televisions that I was anticipating based on what I got last year, but the CX-OLED changes all that.

It is bright enough to do justice to HDR, but it is far from perfect, and the blacks - who cannot be emphasized enough - have a huge impact on the overall picture, with colors that are deep, rich and vibrant. If a 55-inch TV used an OLED panel like LG's, it would have the same low blacks and high contrast ratio as the more expensive OLED TVs. But LG's C1 works even better than my 38-inch ultra-wide, with a jet black OLED panel that gives amazing depth to games I've never seen on a PC monitor.

This is the best screen I have ever tested if you're a high-roller who loves gaming or if you like to watch movies in super high definition. The gaming experience is particularly pronounced in sports simulation games such as FIFA 21 and Formula 1 2020, where 65-inch size, resolution and perfect contrast of the TV give the feeling of real sport with professionals. I use the game mode on the C1 a lot when I play on my PC or Nintendo Switch, but my favorite is watching in cinema mode.

One of the features of OLED TVs is that the screen does not burn-in or leave traces like a static photo. The scenery in a room is fantastic, but you do not experience the glow of round, bright objects against a black background, which is a common problem with LED backlit televisions. Scene settings in an area that seems unlikely to you will not encounter this problem even in standard situations with LED backlighting.

Screen burn-in, a marker that static images leave on the screen, is not as widespread on plasma TVs as in the past, but when you play the same game, the same TV channel, or even the same static window for thousands of hours, it starts to burn itself on the screen. If you accidentally break off or have done this exercise with a lot of TVs, you will most likely discover screen breakdowns. While not as common on Plasma TVs as in previous ones, if you play for hundreds of hours the same video games, TV channels or an identical static home window, it will start burning on the screen.

Another reason why OLED TVs are better in gaming than their LED backlit counterparts is because they don't have the extra step in the backlight process. This additional step significantly reduces the input delay or the time it takes the TV to register your joystick movements.

First of all, there is a new Game Optimiser that allows you to customise the white stabiliser, the black stabiliser and the VRR. You can also switch between G-Sync and FreeSync technology to ensure a smooth gaming experience. You also get support for Allm OLED, which detects incoming game signals via one of the four HDMI 2.1 ports and prevents input delays, a feature that can reduce input latency to below 10ms.

G-Sync and FreeSync technologies allow you to move content in higher resolutions with smoothly synchronized graphics, giving you a more vibrant experience and better odds of winning. LG's C1 is helping to apply the science that graphics card manufacturers such as Nvidia and AMD have been upholding since the sports authority charged for syncing the display with the screen update fee, and things seem to be simpler than ever.

Like LG's 2021 OLED TVs, the C1 also benefits from a redesigned WebOS Smart TV interface. The C1 is thin in screen sizes from 4.8 to 8.3 inches and has an attractive design, and the TV Filmmaker mode makes it easy to get accurate images.

Not only is the C1 brighter than CX from last year (our former top pick), it also features a new game optimizer mode, a group of gaming controls, and updated features that enhance the gaming experience. It is a screen that, as LG puts it, "looks like a graphical gaming approach," with a choice of orange, purple or green color schemes.

The LG C1 and LG G1 OLED televisions now support Dolby Vision HDR, 4K and 120Hz - and with the latest firmware update for the TVs, this is a good news for gamers. As reported at the weekend to the end of the week, a firmware update for the two TVs appeared in the territories on the LGs website, introducing (or rather unlocked) support for Xbox X games, Dolby Vision 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120Hz. The firmware version 0.3.1527 has now been rolled out, it is said, making the C1 OLED the first TV in the world to support the new HDR specification.

The firmware update for LG's C1 and G1 OLED TVs and Xbox Series X TV includes a tool that recognizes the TVs and enables them to handle Dolby Vision in 4K at 60Hz. LG has provided more details about the update, including additional game-friendly features, but the headline-grabbing 4K / 120Hz Dolby Vision compatibility is an extension of the TV models that will receive the update. While LG has equipped a whole range of the only LG TVs with four HDMI 2.1 inputs (ARM), the C1 is one of the most versatile TVs for games.

The LG Game Optimizer dashboard is a great place to adjust to black levels, better shadow details and presets for different game genres to work with. It also increases the input delay, whereby a reduction of the input delay occurs at about 10 ms. With such a wide range of player-friendly features, it is impossible for me to not call this one of the best TVs for games.
