This Himachali girl pierced into Bollywood with Mahesh Bhatt's Gangster. Since then Kangna has grown as an actress over the years.

Kangana Ranaut was born in a small town called in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. Her mother Asha is a school teacher, and her father Amardeep, a businessman. She has an elder sister, Rangoli and a younger brother, Akshit.

Kangana spent her childhood in Dehra Dun and studied in DAV's High School. After completing her schooling, she attended Science College in Simla. She was enrolled in the Elite School of Modeling, and also tried some theater acting in Delhi and was a member of the Smita Theater Group under Arvind Gaur.

She decided to re-locate to Bombay, and lived in a flat in Yari Road, Versova. Then during September 2005, she was spotted drinking coffee in a caf by Film-maker Anurag Basu, who approached her, and eventually signed her up for a lead role in 'Gangster' which was released during the year 2006.

In 2008 she did Fashion directed by Madhur Bhandarker starring Priyanka Chopra in the lead. Kangana's portrayal of a supermodel fetched her various awards, including the prestigious Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award and National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress.

Her last successful film was Tanu Weds Manu (2011) a romantic comedy that was a box office success.She was in when she appeared nude for the cover of a film magazine. She said that there is nothing wrong with the pictures because she has body suits with no vital organs seen. She added that she hasn't posted nude. In spite of the all the rumour has created, she is not disappointed because she knows that this is part of her profession.Bold and beautiful Kangana Ranaut is an actress appearing in Bollywood movies. Kangana is known for her hardcore acting skills, adding thrills to her roles in her movies. Ranaut is also known to speak her mind publicly in Media. Call it a co-incidence or type casting Kangana is mostly seen committing suicide in her every second role.

Kangana was born on 20th march 1987 to Asha, A school teacher and Amardeep Ranaut, a businessman in a small town of Bhambla in Mandi District, Himachal Pradesh. She has an elder sister Rangoli and younger brother Akshit. She is a Rajput and claims her family to be one of the royal families of Rajasthan who migrated to Himachal Pradesh. She was schooled in Dehradun but later went to Delhi and joined the Elite Modeling agency in 2003. The small town girl had bigger dreams. She worked in theatres during her stay in Delhi. She joined the Asmita Theatre group and got the directions from Director Arvind Gaur. She also pursued an Aasha Chandra's Course to polish her acting skills. Ranaut then came to Mumbai and began her struggle. She was lucky to have been noticed by Anurag Basu who offered her a role in the movie 'Gangster' (2006). The gifted actress was aplauded for her role in the successful movie. Then, she featured in the hit 'Woh Lamhe...' in the same year.

She starred in 'Life in a Metro' in 2007. The movie was a hit and she was liked by one and all. In 2008, she appeared in 'Fashion'. She earned a Film fare Best Supporting Actress Award and National Film Award in Best supporting Actress category. She featured in 2009's 'Raaz 2' which added to her list of hits. She did a Telugu Movie 'Ek Niranjan' directed by Puri Jagannadh. 'Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai' (2010) is considered as her most successful movie till date. 'Tanu Weds Manu' (2011) with R. Madhavan saw her in a different avatar. 'Double Dhamaal' and 'Rascals' released in 2011 were moderately successful films.

She will soon appear in Balaji Motion pictures 'Shootout At Wadala' along with John Abraham which will release in May this year. Her Upcoming Projects are 'I love NY' alongside Sunny Deol, Rakesh Roshan's 'Krrish 3' and Sai Kabir's 'Revolver Rani' to be produced by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
