Instagram overtook Twitter last year to become the world’s eighth most popular social media network, with over 400 million active users. The photo-sharing network has become incredibly popular since its launch in 2010 and there are over 30 billion photos on the network, with 70 million more uploaded each and every day which belong to the different brands, cute animal photos, target marketing but mostly represent common people. But what does the future hold for Instagram? Read on to find out.

The here and now

The creators of Instagram designed the network so people could share photos of what they were getting up to. When Hurricane Sandy hit the east coast of the US in 2012, the creators of Instagram realized the network was being used in a different way: instead of people posting photos of what they were up to, they were coming together, united by the devastation of the hurricane, and posting photos relating to their own experiences. Instagram became about people coming together because of an event and posting real-time updates on their experiences; it became more about there here and now. In the 24 hours following the Paris attacks, 70 million Instagram users posted 430 million photos offering prayers and support for those affected by the attack.

A real-time social network for making friends in 2020 and much more..

Given that people use Instagram to document real-time events, the creators of Instagram want to focus on this a lot more and to make the social media network the place that people go to in order to share photos and information about events as they are happening. They believe photos and videos are better ways at documenting events than words - Instagram already has plenty of photo features, but in the future, you can expect loads more video features to be rolled out. Instagram believes videos will play a key role in its future.

Transporting you to live events

The future of Instagram is likely to be about people on one side of the world experience events that are taking place on the other side of the world in real-time. Instagram wants you to be able to experience events as if you’re actually there through the use of photos and videos. You won’t just find out about an event, you’ll get an immersive, real-time experience of that event thanks to the content that users upload. One thing that Instagram has to bear in mind, though, is its competitors. There are loads of other social media networks vying for people's attention and Instagram plans on creating new, exciting features to ensure people choose Instagram instead of another social media network.

The diversity of users

One of the things that Instagram wants to maintain in the future is its diversity of users. In terms of photo-taking, using cool Photoshop filters there are all sorts of people on Instagram, from professional photographers who use the site to promote their skills, to amateur photographers who just want to take cool photos and edit them. If Instagram’s going to be a tool for sharing real-time content, it’s important that users remain diverse, so that there are different stories, experiences and viewpoints to be shared.

The Impact

Let's see the impact of Instagram on the global scene in the domains of social media platforms. Today, not a single day goes without checking our social media accounts. We just can't live without internet at all. It has become an antidote we need after a couple of hours every day. It's not for only the urban population of the world now. Instagram has a tremendous amount of followers across the rural population as well. Today we see tons of posts shared from the far-flung villages from Asia, Africa and all the other continents respectively.

Conclusion

Instagram is not here for a brief time unlike other popular social medias. We can say it can be easily called a equal to Facebook. Probably, it was the reason Facebook purchased it. We will see more of it to come in near future. It has been playing a key role to amalgamate the diverse cultures and bring its own which may reflect a common viewpoint on many things.
