The military academy system is an important component of China's armed forces. Currently, including the People's Liberation Army and the People's Armed Police Force, there are a total of 44 active military academies, categorized into four levels: Deputy Theater Command Level, Full Army Level, Deputy Army Level, and Full Division Level. The Deputy Theater Command Level academy is unique, known as the prestigious National Defense University. The Full Army Level academies are slightly more numerous, totaling six, which are the Army Command Academy, Naval Command Academy, Air Force Command Academy, Rocket Force Command Academy, Armed Police Command Academy, and the National University of Defense Technology. It should be noted that among the six active Full Army Level military academies in China, only the National University of Defense Technology is open for enrollment from the general public and has five major campuses.

The National University of Defense Technology, as it is known today, was newly restructured and established in 2017. It is led by the Central Military Commission and is not affiliated with any specific branch of the military. It differs significantly from the former National Defense Science and Technology University, with a broader distribution of campuses, stronger comprehensive strength, but a lower level of classification.

Firstly, let's introduce the enhancements of the National University of Defense Technology: During the previous military academy restructuring, the former National Defense Science and Technology University absorbed and merged with the former PLA International Relations College, National Defense Information Academy, Xi'an Communication College, Electronic Engineering Academy, and the former PLA University of Science and Technology's Meteorology and Oceanography Academy, among other military academies. It also incorporated the 63rd Research Institute of the Military Commission's Equipment Development Department, greatly enriching and enhancing the overall strength of the university. The merger of the former National Defense Information Academy, Xi'an Communication College, and Electronic Engineering Academy, in particular, has provided a more solid foundation for the training in electronic countermeasures and information communication.

Next, let's introduce the campuses of the National University of Defense Technology: In addition to the main campus and Changsha campus in Changsha, Hunan, the National University of Defense Technology actually has campuses in Hefei, Anhui; Wuhan, Hubei; Nanjing, Jiangsu; and Xi'an, Shaanxi. It also has training and research institutions in Beijing, Kunming, Kunshan, and other places. This is the "one university, eight locations" layout of the National Defense Science and Technology University, with the number of campuses second only to the National Defense University.

Then, let's talk about the demotion of the National University of Defense Technology's level: Before the military reform, the former National Defense Science and Technology University was at the Deputy Theater Command Level, with the president and political commissar both being Deputy Theater Command Level lieutenant generals. However, after the military reform, the National University of Defense Technology was clearly defined as a Full Army Level, with the president and political commissar standardizing at Full Army Level major generals. It should be noted that the demotion of half a level of the National University of Defense Technology is also an important evidence of the general demotion and reduction in the military academy field.

Since its reorganization, the National University of Defense Technology has been based on the two major requirements of new military personnel training and independent innovation in national defense science and technology, and is open for enrollment from the general public. Of course, the admission scores over the years have been very high, after all, the National University of Defense Technology is a 211 university, a 985 university, and also one of the first batch of national "Double First-Class" key construction universities. Students who obtain military status start calculating their military age from the date of registration, enjoy the benefits of the military supply system during their studies, are exempt from all fees, and can also receive student allowances every month. Bachelor's degree graduates are awarded the rank of second lieutenant.

According to public information, the National University of Defense Technology has a total of 12 secondary colleges and one graduate school. These 12 secondary colleges are the School of Science, School of Computer Science, School of Electronic Science, School of Frontier Interdisciplinary Studies, School of Intelligent Science, School of Systems Engineering, School of Aerospace Science, School of Foreign Languages, School of Information and Communication (based on the former National Defense Information Academy, the former Xi'an Communication College), School of Electronic Countermeasures (formerly the PLA Electronic Engineering Academy), School of Meteorology and Oceanography, and School of Military and Political Basic Education, covering six categories including science, engineering, military science, management, law, and literature, with a total of 61 undergraduate education majors, 23 first-level discipline doctoral degree authorization points, and 26 first-level discipline master's degree authorization points. Among them, Information and Communication Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Aeronautics and Astronautics Science and Technology, Software Engineering, and Management Science and Engineering are five disciplines selected for the national "Double First-Class" construction disciplines.

The National University of Defense Technology is a famous military school, a national-level famous school, and an excellent platform for young people to achieve their ideals and realize their ambitions. Students who can be admitted to the National University of Defense Technology are actually successful people and pillars of the country. Young talents who graduate from the National University of Defense Technology fight in various fields and positions of the military and society, making a huge contribution to the rise of the country, the rejuvenation of the nation, the consolidation of national defense, and the construction of the military. I sincerely hope that our country can have more and more strong schools and famous schools like the National University of Defense Technology, injecting continuous strength and hope into our country.
