My earliest memories are always filled with sheep. My father had sheep, and so did a lot of the neighbours. They had been crucial to the island economy for generations, providing both meat and the wool for our traditional fabric, Harris Tweed, which was spun at home by women and sold to bolster families' income.

The Conversation
"Katie, I really like you; I love you." he announced, looking straight ahead. They were sitting in his car outside her home, too warm because she had insisted on closing the windows so the neighbours wouldn't hear. Not that the neighbours cared. They didn't know her, and couldn't know how long she had resisted getting in this car; the danger she was in prickled along her skin, but remained invisible. Maybe the heat wasn't even provided by the weak British sun; maybe it was the electricity buzzing between them.
