To Give Your Last Twenty
He walks oddly, shuffling and nearly tripping down the hallway toward his apartment door. I slow my pace, allowing my neighbor— a stuffy ex-marine with one missing tooth and a strong odor of liquor and two weeks' worth of unwashed stench always accompanying him—to reach his door. I crinkle my nose, nearly gagging as he dawdles ahead.
AshleyPublished 7 days ago in MotivationIt Only Took One Minute.......
It only took a minute. I was sitting at the computer in my office when the phone rang. I picked up the receiver and then laid it down my desk as I went to find the student who the call was for. Within seconds I was back at my desk, ready to resume typing, when I heard the student yelling obscenities at me for listening in to his call through the handset that was still lying on the desk. Sick and tired of the lies he was spewing, I was up running down the hall, ready to kill him. By the time I reached him, I had calmed enough not to hurt him, but as I turned back towards my room, I knew that I couldn’t go on like this any longer. The decision was clear. I had to leave.

Inspiration is all around us. Sometimes it comes in an email labeled 'TYWK' or 'For You'. Sometimes it's a meme posted on social media. Other times it's more subtle.

I'll start this off by saying that if I had to choose a word for this next year on Vocal, it would be Discovery. Vocal has been my breakthrough for my writing. What I mean by that, is I have enjoyed writing since I can remember. As a child, and into my teens I loved writing poems and song lyrics, and eventually started writing fictional love stories. But then I became an adult, and that life hit me like a freight train. Writing fell on the back burner for many years, even though I still had a desire deep down to continue it. I always let life get in the way though. And then, in my early 30's I ran across the Vocal platform. A spark lit back up in me, just a small one though. Because unfortunately at the time I was stuck in an unhealthy addiction which consumed my time and energy. So I signed up for the yearly subscription, and started to write. And boy did I write, for several months in fact. But sadly a year down the road I looked at my progress, and all I had to show for it were a bunch of unfinished drafts. I was going through so much I didn't really have the ability or attention span to commit myself to what I so badly wanted to do. With that being said, and before I can talk about my goals and aspirations for this new year on Vocal, I need to give you a bit more insight into my past.
Tressa RosePublished 4 months ago in MotivationThe Tithe
The Tithe The church has asked for your ten percent. There are the year end accounts to reconcile and requests on what to give in upcoming events, chances to volunteer to help the cause. The pessimist in me recounts the times in which I said I would give, even if only to myself, and came up short or lacking, missing a deadline or wanting another edit to the timeline so I could make room for the unrequited time. My ledger of lost opportunity looms above me like a ghost visiting my bedroom on Christmas Eve.

For far too long, the world’s been enveloped by darkness. That’s the darker side of humanity, not a lack of sunlight. So many hope that it’ll change. What do you do to affect change in the world?

To the Many
To the early mornings and the feelings of a grey, heavy, ambience, where the guilt melts away with the falling rain. To the sound of the birds outside the window, tirelessly executing the exquisite concert of squawks. To my partner to be there by my side, still, loving me like he does, despite all the trouble I might be causing. To his heavy, beautiful arms resting on my waist until it hurts. To the smell of my sheets, lavishly soaked in orange and lavender. To the ten deep breaths and the perfect stillness without intrusive thoughts harassing my mind. To the split second between my feet and the timber floor, and standing there, ready for the world. To the curious potential, the day holds. To remembering that I am here only for a short visit and I might be called to leave at any time. May this year be filled with the charm of the mundane. I wish to stay present and awake, grateful, alive and at peace.

We did it! We hit 100 stories here on Vocal! It's been a journey that has come with its ups and downs. Some days I was excited to write something new but on other days I didn't really know what to say or if I even wanted to say anything at all.
Anthony TerryPublished about 7 hours ago in MotivationHow Much Is Your Best Worth?
How much is your best worth? In Walmart two days ago, with a family member at the self-checkout. I had an issue and needed help. I glanced around looking for someone to assist me. The only person wearing a light blue vest which the employees wore, was a female a few feet away, on her phone. Calling out several times, she was so engulfed in her phone she couldn’t hear me. I had to go to her and she was startled and put the phone away and assisted me.

Quick Background I love discussing money and retirement planning with people in all walks of life (poor, rich, old, and young). I am probably a little too obsessed with it — it comes from a place of fear, yet gratitude. Growing up poor, my family and friends lacked financial literacy, and they definitely were not financially sharp.

1.”God is good” The narrative follows a mother interrogating her child about his actions, which prompts insights into life's truths. During their exchange, the mother questions the child about being aware of God witnessing him taking cookies from the kitchen. The child affirms this and admits to God watching him the whole time. THERE IS A GIRL AND THE HOUSE IS LOCKED There was a girl who had a strange dream many times. In her dream, she saw many people locked in a dark house locked tightly by a rusty lock, and they begged to be rescued. From then on, she became thin, emaciated, her skin turned yellow, and her body became more and more lifeless. No doctor could diagnose her illness.
