Have you ever thought of NOT expecting anything from anyone?
Not in a dramatic way. Just quietly… you loosen your grip.
No more checking out with that tiny HOPE sitting in your chest.
No more overanalyzing “okay” like it carries emotional depth.
No more convincing yourself, “maybe this time they’ll show up differently.”
You just… STOP.
And yeah, at first it feels peaceful.
Lighter. Cleaner.
But there’s another side people don’t talk about. It also feels a little sad.
Because expectations weren’t JUST expectations—
they were hope.
Hope that you mattered a little MORE.
Hope that this meant something deeper.
Hope that you weren’t just… convenient.
When you stop expecting, you stop forcing.
You stop trying to decode them.
Stop making excuses for things that keep repeating.
Stop shrinking your needs just to keep their presence.
You start seeing them clearly.
It’s grieving something that NEVER fully existed, but felt real enough to leave an ACHE behind.
And somewhere in between all this, I must say,
Every person is… something. Soft in their own way. Beautiful in their own way. Not perfect, not flawless but human, layered, shaped by things we don’t even SEE.
But it’s their patterns, their choices, their consequences… that decide whether they’re good for you or NOT.
And that’s where we mess up.
We see the beauty, the potential, the “they’re actually a good person deep down” part and we ignore the reality.
Someone can be a GOOD person… and still be wrong for you.
Someone can have a SOFT heart… and still handle yours carelessly.
And holding onto their potential while ignoring their patterns? That’s how you end up stuck in a loop, even if they NEVER “officially” did anything wrong.
So maybe it’s not about expecting MORE from them.
Maybe it’s about accepting them exactly as they are, without excuses, without adding meaning that isn’t there.
And then deciding… if that version of them actually feels SAFE for you.
You’ll have moments where you catch yourself almost expecting again—
almost hoping they’ll notice any difference now,
almost wishing they’d ask, without you having to say it.
And when they don’t…
it stings. Still.
Just softer.
But deeper somehow.
Because now you’re NOT sad.
You’re aware.
And awareness hits different. It’s calm, but it CUTS clean.
You start seeing things for what they are, not what you wished they could be.
You stop making excuses for them… but you also STOP blaming them for being exactly who they’ve always been.
And in the middle of all that growth,
there’s a small, human part of US that still whispers:
“I just wanted it to be real.”
Not perfect.
Not intense.
Just… real. Mutual. Effortless in the way CARE is supposed to be.
So yeah, you stop expecting.
But you don’t stop feeling.
You just learn where your feelings are SAFE to land.
