Introduction

Although I have written on the subject before which includes pointing out an issue about recording reads, because we all like to get a little coffee money.

As I keep saying Vocal is the best publishing platform there is, you only have to publish, get a read and you have half a cent in your Vocal Wallet. It doesn't sound much but it can mount up to coffeelicious amounts.

So What Am I Stating Again?

When our stories are published, it is up to use to promote those stories. There are these two Vocal guides with advice:

And there is more on this page

You can't just post and expect to get reads, you need to get others to subscribe to you, and share you work on Threads, BlueSky, Instagram, and the Facebook Groups.

Now while I get a lot of reads outside of Vocal I do not know where they come from but it is more coffee money. The problem with non-Vocal likes is that they may just be liking the image you use for your story, and I do not know how to get them to read, apart from sharing a brief synopsis of what your story is about.

Then we move on to hearts from other Vocal Creators. I often get them on Facebook, but there is no sign that they have actually read the story. I never follow this up, it is their choice and I am guilty of it sometimes, but it doesn;t benefit the creator financially if you don;t follow through and read it.

Again when on Vocal I get people who heart a story, but I only know that if I see it, usually I miss hearts because they get lost in the swathe of unnecessary notifications.

A comment, even a simple emoticon or "X" shows me that a creator has visited my story. Often just leaving a heart does not count as a read.

I know people drop into stories and save them to read later. What this means is the first visit is not long enough to count as a read, and the second visit where the story is read does not count as a read either because it is the second time the reader has visited the story. Subsequent visits do not count as reads.

This results in the situatuation with my Bob Marley piece.

It has eight hearts , five comments (that should guarantee five reads) but only one read.

Conclusion

So if you drop into a story that you like stay for a minute or two and drop a comment, that should make sure that the creator gets their coffee money.

Thank you so much for reading, I really appreciate your support.

The music is the gorgeous "Come Talk To Me" by Peter Gabriel, I think you know why.
