As we come to the end of the third month of the year, it's a good time for us to start to reflect on those pesky New Year's resolutions that most of us made at the beginning of the year.

How many have you achieved and how many have you abandoned? How many have you started to tell yourself that you will try to accomplish them next year?

Was writing your novel one of them?

Instead of abandoning your goals for writing this year since there is still plenty of time to accomplish them let's see if we can change your mindset about your goals so that this is the year that you turn them from just goals into a reality.

Positive Thinking

I'm not going to tell you that just sitting there and thinking happy and positive thoughts is going to be the way to accomplish your writing goals - but I am going to tell you that it's better than the alternative of sitting there and thinking that you will never accomplish them.

If in your head you're telling yourself that you are never going to write your book, that no one is going to read your book, and no one will like your book - you're killing all the motivation and chance of success that you have before you even put that first word on the page.

Have you ever tried to angrily bake a cake? The ingredients may all be right and measured perfectly, but ask anyone around - the secret ingredient to any cake is love.

Change your I can't and I won't into I can and I will.

You will finish your book. People are going to read it and some of them will love it.

If you need to recite this mantra to yourself every time you sit down to write then so be it. You can even write each one down on their own little sticky note and cover your writing area with them or even better have a partner or a family member write them out for you. If you can't believe in yourself then let them believe in you enough for the both of you.

Sure most of this sounds like a cliche, but that doesn't mean that it's not true. Almost 90% of our results are determined by the effort and mindset we have when we write.

Even if you don't believe in the cliche of what you put out into the universe comes back to you mumbo jumbo - it can't hurt to try it right? If you haven't been able to achieve your goals with your current attitude about it - what's the harm in trying to turn that around?

You can accomplish your goals and write your novel.

If you have a hard time telling you're self that then keep coming back and I'll keep saying it to you until you believe it.

Now go be the amazing piece of stardust that you are!

With love,
