Sexual sin

Six reasons you’ve fallen back into sexual sin

By Elizabeth EmmanuelPublished 11 months ago 3 min read

It is no secret that Nollywood, Hollywood and the likes, glamorizes sex. We often watch our favorite characters go from one love interest to another and it’s easy to forget how sexual sin complicates and confuses our spiritual, emotional and physical lives.

Sexual immorality is a topic that has been debated for centuries. It is a term that describes any behavior that violates God’s laws as to sexual relations. Sexual sin can take many forms, including adultery, fornication, masturbation, homosexuality etc.

For Christians, the Bible says in the book of 1 Corinthians 6:18 to “flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” And as Christians we believe that God has redeemed and called us to honor Him through the purification of our bodies. So it’s only awesome to wonder why you are unable to abstain from sexual sin. While there are lots of reasons why you keep fallen back to sexual sin, I have list out few that I hope will be helpful to you and to everyone you’ll share with. By studying this list, you should be able to answer the question, “Why am I consistently falling to sexual temptation?” And be able to correct yourself in order to continue down the road of sanctification, especially in this area of sexual sin.

1. YOU MISS THE FEELING

Many believers find themselves relapsing back into sexual sin(s), because they miss how they usually do feel, that ecstasy, that pleasure they enjoy whenever they engage in any sexual activity.

2. YOU HAVE NOT CUT OFF EXTERNAL TRIGGERS

Anything outside of you that stirs you to fall into sexual sin is an external trigger; It could be a person or a thing. Maybe a boyfriend or a girlfriend you know is not God’s will for your life, sometimes it can be music, tv shows/movies, partying, alcohol, friends etc. What are you watching on TV? What are you listening to? What YouTube videos are you watching? At the end of the day, you know what your triggers are.

3. YOU HAVE NOT LEARNED HOW TO DEAL WITH YOUR INTERNAL TRIGGERS

Those thoughts and feelings that can cause a sudden urge or desire for sexual sin are your internal triggers. If you don’t learn to control yourself when those internal triggers surfaces then it’ll be difficult to abstain sexual sin.

4. INCONSISTENCY IN READING THE BIBLE AND IN PRAYER

The most efficient habit one can cultivate in order to escape sexual sin is to pray and read the Bible regularly. This can not be overemphasized. If you don’t sacrifice time to connect with God but only pray to him when in need then such a lifestyle will cripple you spiritually.

5.YOU DO NOT LIVE A HOLY LIFE

Our God is holy and therefore, we must be holy too. The scripture tells us to walk in the spirit so we don’t fulfill the lust of the flesh. We should learn to live consecrated lives by moving away from sinful habits, toxic relationships, songs, entertainment, and lifestyle that leads us to sin.

6.BOREDOM

Often, we can say it’s normal to get bored sometimes, but you should also have it in mind that satan can come in to tempt. Idleness happen in life but be careful about what you think or do when idle or bored.

You can’t say you honestly want to overcome sexual sin but still linger in activities that forces you back repetitively to keep up with those sexual acts.

Although it’s true that there’s no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1) but it is wrong also to abuse the grace of God, so please be serious with God today and may He bless us abundantly in Jesus name, Amen.

Thanks my lovely readers, cheers.
