Introduction

June is named after Juno, the queen of the Roman gods. In Roman mythology, she was the goddess of marriage and childbirth, which is a major reason why June has historically been the most popular month for weddings.

Last month's turned out not to be the last of my challenges. Although Vocal never acknowledge these (probably because the form is the same each month) but seems to acknowledge every one by certain others, a lot of creators and friends showed their support, and I won't let those down.

Every month, we have set prompts in the Vocal Social Society. We offer a dollar tip to five random creators who take part and ask them to share their stories in the comments and on the thread in the group.

This is not official, and usually after each one, I say that's it, and this time I think people have had enough of me.

So What's Gonna Happen This Time?

Please write a poem or story related to June, but we have the summer solstice, the Stonewall Riots and many other subjects to inspire you.

Here are a few June days which may inspire you:

  • June 1: Say Something Nice Day
  • June 3: Chimborazo Day
  • June 5 is World Environment Day—a day meant to raise environmental awareness across the globe.
  • June 6: National Yo-Yo Day
  • June 8: Upsy Daisy Day
  • June 14 is Flag Day (U.S.). Be sure to raise the flag! Learn about the U.S. Flag Code, which provides guidelines for displaying the American flag properly.
  • June 16 marks the Islamic New Year, which begins with the first sighting of the crescent Moon after the new Moon in the month of Muharram. This event signals the start of the Islamic lunar calendar year.
  • June 19 is Juneteenth (also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day). On this day in 1865, Union General Gordon Granger read the Emancipation Proclamation aloud in Galveston, Texas, effectively liberating enslaved people in the state, which had thus far been beyond the control of the Union Army.
  • June 21 is the summer solstice, which heralds the start of summer in the Northern Hemisphere. It’s the day with the most hours of daylight. In the Southern Hemisphere, winter begins at this time.
  • June 21: Go Skateboarding Day
  • June 21 is Father’s Day this year. Find activity ideas and learn about the history of Father’s Day.
  • In Canada, June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day (Canada), recognizing the contributions of the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit peoples.
  • June 24 brings Midsummer Day, also St. John the Baptist’s Feast Day. Traditionally, this was the midpoint of the growing season, halfway between planting and harvesting. It is celebrated in many cultures on the night of June 23 as Midsummer Eve! Learn all about Midsummer traditions.
  • June 28 is the anniversary of the 1969 Stonewall Riots—a watershed moment for LGBT rights in the United States.
  • June 30: Asteroid Day

I will write a piece or two myself and include them, but that won't be classed as an entry.

I am looking forward to seeing what you come up with, and I know that you are all incredibly creative Vocal talents, so get your pens, paper and keyboards out.

The music is "Juno" by Sabrina Carpenter

Take a listen, it may inspire you.

So SHARE YOUR WORK in the comments here, and/or also on the thread in the Vocal Social Society if you are on Facebook.

Please drop your entry in the comments. Otherwise, I won't see yours when I choose the random winners. Also, please link and mention this piece in your entry. Thanks for that.

On Wednesday, 1st July 2026. I will award a dollar tip to five random Vocal Creators who have shared their work here.

Here is the last prompt/challenge with the results and the five randomly chosen stories:

These are my examples:

These are the five random dollar awards. Sorry, they are late
