Esteemed author, writer and charity champion Ashley Smith has passed away during a Cornish holiday. He was celebrating the sucess of his memoir, sorry I took so long. The title refers to his long time as what he called a "normal " person. His first published work came after his 56th birthday, once that happened he became prolific. In the following 10 years books were written, film adaptations made and 2 very sucessfull TV shows were made.

He was a great advocate for younger people living with Autism and other similair conditions. This was due to both his children and later career. Indeed the special kind of hero books feature a young lady who finds her way through life with her Autism in control. It led to many compliments from Autism charities and a number of literay awards.

Tv work came through two very sucessfull BBC tv shows. "Shout" was based around the work in deepest cornwall of the emergency services. Volunteers from the lifeboats, on call fireman, stretretched police and fire, along with coastgaurds mixed between volunteers and full time staff. Ashley says he came up with the idea after asstising at a serious car accident. Due to the way Cornwalls ambulances and police are scattered around the county there was no help for 30 minutes.

The series dealt with these problems but also showedd how well the services can cope when working together. It also showed the risks volunteers face when trying to help others in distress.

Remember me was a very emotional tribute to both professionals and families who support people with Alzheimers. The remeber me name comes from the fact that sufferes will eventually forget who their familes are, even husbands and wives.

Come down with me is a semi autobiographal tale of revenge againg people who wronged the author. As he said himself, the names of the guilty have been changed to protect the innocent. The story spent time as a one man play, a one man tv show, an ensemble tv show and a few other iterations.

Possibly the best way to remeber Ashley is too borrow from his recent autobiography. He always seemed honest and trustworthy so will take what he says as right.

If I could write my own memorial story I would just tell the truth over what I hace actually achieved, things I can show the results of. 2 children, 1 nasty marriage, 1 perfect marriage, some books, some tv and a lot of work to help the world understand Autism. My disability stopped my normal career and kickstarted my writing career. I hope I cheered a few people up, helped a few people and that I will be remembered as a generally good person.
