Car insurance is necessary for the preservation of public safety on our roadways. Maintaining your car insurance policy means that you’re covered in the event of a total loss, or even a mild traffic incident. The real protection granted by car insurance is against other drivers. If you are found to be the at-fault driver, you won’t have to pay out of pocket for expensive car repairs or medical bills. Alternatively, a great insurance policy will help cover your own injuries and transportation needs after an accident leave you hurt or without a vehicle to get from place to place.

But not all insurance is created equal, and not all drivers require the same type of coverage. Differing deductibles, various coverage in the event of a total loss, tow, roadside assistance, or spare parts needs make insurance policies as unique as our fingerprints. In fact, there is even a specialty niche in the insurance company marketplace for antique cars and those with additional coverage requirements in order to better represent the consumer needs of Australian drivers of all stripes. Classic car insurance policies have actually become a staple in the collector car industry.

Types of car insurance.

Car insurance comes in a variety of forms. Car insurance QLD is most often found in Compulsory Third Party (CTP) or Comprehensive varieties. Each insurance policy option comes with its benefits, but these two couldn’t be more different in their level of protection. Compulsory coverage is the lowest level of car insurance and protects you in the event of an accident that you’ve caused only as it relates to the other person’s vehicle repair costs. All drivers must ensure their vehicles this minimum level of coverage in order to use the car on an Australian road. This legally binding protection means that all drivers, no matter the type of car they travel in, can rest assured that their classic car or new car will be protected in the event of an accident caused by another driver. However, this doesn’t cover damages that you cause to your own vehicle. For this, comprehensive coverage is the best option. It protects you against fire, theft, and damage of all types and has fewer exclusions baked into the terms of the insurance policy.

The type of insurance that you choose for your vehicle depends on your personalized needs. For most drivers, these two options are the standard choices for insuring their vehicle. For drivers that own old vehicles that are likely to need replacing soon, the lowest level of coverage may be the best option. For others with new cars, the coverage that includes damage to your ride may be a better choice in order to mitigate your potential liability.

Insurance for classic cars.

However, there is another category of car owners that requires a totally different level of protection. Classic car collectors require additional protection because the antique cars that frequent their garages are valued in a different way than the majority of cars we see on the road. Typically a vehicle’s value is based on age factors that depreciate the initial price tag. However, a classic car or vintage car gains value as it ages. This is because antique cars become rarer as time passes, whereas the old Honda Accord that might sit on your driveway does not. Finding the best insurance for classic cars can be a challenge. Not all insurers provide this service, and when they do, classic car insurers often charge a premium for this additional level of coverage. However, the additional protection is worth it. The increased cash value of a classic car requires protecting because these often form a part of collectors’ investment portfolios as well as their collections.

Finding the right car insurance for your needs takes a bit of patience, but choosing the right policy is incredibly important, especially for those with vintage vehicles that need protection. The additional coverage offered by classic car insurers provides a measure of peace to car collectors that are not easily found. Make the right choice for your needs in order to ensure your peace of mind for the long term.
