There are certain important aspects of driving that are not always taught in driving school. Despite knowing the rules of the road,

1.) It is crucial to adjust the seat properly to avoid any discomfort and ensure the right position while driving. Keeping knees slightly bent, maintaining a gap between the seat and the back of knees, and positioning the hips at the same level as knees are important considerations. see the image below.

2.) It is also essential to adjust the steering wheel to the right position, with the bottom of the wheel a palms width away from the top of your leg and holding it at nine and three positions. Keeping both hands on the wheel is safer and prevents back pain, and the headrest should be adjusted to the center of your head.

3.) Checking brake pipes regularly for any defects and replacing them if required is also necessary to avoid accidents. Screeching noises, pulsing brake pedals, drifting sideways when pressing the brake, and traces of brake fluid leaks are some signs of brake problems that need attention.

4.) Finally, don't forget about the importance of regular maintenance for your car. Even if your car seems to be running smoothly, it's essential to take it in for regular checkups and maintenance to ensure everything is functioning correctly. Neglecting regular maintenance can lead to bigger and more expensive problems down the road, and it can also affect the safety of your car and your ability to drive it safely.

Some essential maintenance tasks to keep in mind include checking and changing your oil, monitoring your tire pressure and tread depth, checking your brakes, inspecting your battery, and keeping your windshield wipers in good condition. It's also a good idea to keep your car clean both inside and out to maintain its value and prevent damage from dirt and debris.

By following these tips and paying attention to the details of your driving position, brake system, and car maintenance, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable driving experience. Don't forget that driving safely is not only about following the rules of the road but also about taking care of yourself and your vehicle.

Here are some additional safe driving tips:

a.) Always wear your seatbelt: This may seem obvious, but many people still fail to do so. Seatbelts save lives and can significantly reduce the risk of injury in an accident. Make sure that you and all passengers in your car are wearing their seatbelts properly.

b.) Keep a safe following distance: It's important to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you. This allows you to react in case of an emergency and avoid rear-ending the vehicle in front of you. A good rule of thumb is to keep a distance of at least one car length for every 10 mph you are traveling.

c.) Avoid distractions: Distracted driving is a leading cause of accidents. Avoid texting, eating, applying makeup, or any other activity that takes your attention away from the road. If you need to make a call or send a text, pull over to a safe location.

d.) Be aware of your surroundings: Stay alert and aware of what's happening around you. Scan the road ahead and use your mirrors to check your blind spots. Look out for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other vehicles.

e.) Don't drive under the influence: Never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Not only is it illegal, but it's also extremely dangerous and can lead to accidents, injuries, and fatalities.

f.) Use your turn signals: Always use your turn signals when changing lanes, turning, or merging into traffic. This helps other drivers anticipate your actions and avoid collisions.

g.) As you have learned earlier, keep your vehicle maintained: Regular vehicle maintenance, such as oil changes, tire rotations, and brake inspections, can help prevent mechanical failures that can cause accidents. Make sure your headlights, taillights, and turn signals are working properly.

Note: Safe driving is not just about following the rules of the road, it's about being responsible, alert, and aware of your surroundings at all times.
