The third version of the MPV, with a completely new style, was just recently introduced by Toyota Kirloskar Motor in India. Booking for the model, which will go on sale in January 2023, has already started, and has a starting price of Rs. 18.30 lakh and goes all the way upto Rs. 28.97 ex- showroom New Delhi. Customers may find it a little challenging to choose between the two models, though, because Toyota will be selling the Crysta alongside the Hycross. To help you choose the one that best meets your needs, we've listed the distinctions between the two.

Chassis

The new Innova Crysta is based on TNGA-C platform, which is a monocoque platform. IN comparison with Crysta, Hycross has an SUV-like design. Crysta, on the other hand, is based on Toyota’s IMV platform, a ladder-on-frame chassis. Toyota has used this platform for their other vehicles like Fortuner, Toyota Hilux etc. Innova Crysta has a rear wheel drive setup, while the new Innova Hycross has a front-wheel drive setup.

The ladder on frame chassis is more tough and rugged than the monocoque chassis but the monocoque chassis will give Hycross more refinement and better driving dynamics and ride confort.

Exterior Design

The Hycross comes with a completely new design. It looks bolder, bigger, sportier and more SUV-like when compared to Crysta. The front end gets a new Hexagonal grille with some chrome accent along with a pair of new LED headlamps and DRLs. Crysta on the other hand comes with a projector headlamp and a trapezoidal grille. The rear end of the Hycross has a blacked-out taillight and a chrome strip running across the top of the tailgate. It also gets a roof spoiler which gives it a more sporty look.

Crysta on the other hand is plain and upright in the rear. Crysta comes with a 17-inch alloy wheel , while the Hycross comes with an 18-inch wheel for the top-end trim, and a 17-inch wheel for the base hybrid model. The base petrol model however gets a 16-inch steel wheel.

Dimensions

In terms of dimensions length, width and height of Hycross are 4755mm,1850mm and 1795mm respectively and 4735mm, 1830mm and 1795mm for the Innova Crysta. From these figures, the height of both the cars are the same, while the all-new Hycross is 20mm longer and 15mm wider than the Innova Crysta.

The wheelbase of Hycross and Crysta is 2850mm and 2750mm respectively. This extra 100mm wheelbase gives more cabin space for Hycross.

Features

Toyota has never been known for class-leading features, but this time they are playing it differently. Hycross is loaded with a lots of new features. It comes with 2 airbags as standard. Powered tailgate, 360-degree camera, connected car technology with over 65 features, 10.1 inch touchscreen infotainment system with apple carplay and Android Auto, 9 unit JBL speaker, Ventilated front seats, climate control for front and rear, Ottoman seats for the middle row, panoramic sunroof. All these features are not available in Crysta.

Safety features

Hycross comes with lots of safety features. For the first time, Toyota is providing ADAS system. ADAS comes with features like lane keep assist, blind spot monitor, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, ABS, EBD, ISOFIX, hill climb assist etc.

Crysta is also well-equipped in terms of safety. Top end trim comes with 7 airbag, has ABS, EBD , hill climb assist etc.

Performance

The Hycross has two engine options: a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with a CVT that produces 172 horsepower and 205 pound-feet of torque, and a 2.0-liter petrol hybrid engine with an E-CVT that produces 183 horsepower and 206 pound-feet of torque. The front wheels receive power from both mills.

The Toyota Innova Crysta only comes with a 2.7-liter petrol engine that produces 164 bhp and 245 nm of torque when mated to a five-speed manual transmission at the moment. It used to be offered with a 2.4-liter diesel engine producing 147 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque, connected to a five-speed manual transmission and a six-speed torque converter that sent power to the rear wheels. Bookings for diesel are now suspended, however some sources have verified that bookings will resume soon.
