The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced the range ratings for the Hyundai IONIQ 5. Among the models tested were three models, including the standard range version 2WD and the long-range version 2WD/4WD. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 EPA was rated with a maximum range of 303 miles.

The results of the ratings show that the Hyundai IONIQ 5 EPA standard range 2WD EPA score is 220 miles (354 km); the IONIQ 5 EPA long range 2WD EPA score is 303 miles (488 km); the IONIQ 5 EPA long range 4WD EPA score is 256 miles (412 km).

The standard version of the 2WD model is equipped with a 58.2kWh battery pack, and the long-range 2WD/4WD model is equipped with a 77.4kWh battery version.

Model Review

As a mid-size coupe SUV, the IONIQ 5's disruptive appearance coupled with the new pixelated LED lighting technology is a good reflection of the uniqueness of Korean pure electric SUVs. In detail, the IONIQ 5 largely continues the creative styling of the previous Hyundai 45 concept car, with a low body that shows a very different mindset from that of a conventional SUV; while the body lines are "unusually" rich, and are all in a harsh, straight state to outline the entire body, thus making the whole car full of cyberpunk Mechanical style.

The headlights are designed with "kinetic cube lights", which consist of a matrix of LED dots inspired by pixel arrangements; in addition to the white double "U" shape shown in the picture, it can also be customized in many other different arrangements.

Coming to the side, Hyundai says the IONIQ 5 has nearly perfect proportions, especially the C-pillar with a unique 45-degree design inspired by the 1920s airplane shape. In terms of details, the side waistline design is also sharp and straight, and through the vertical and horizontal layout, outlining one block after another; while the previous conventional wheel header also adds aerodynamic design, not only makes the shape more unique but also highlights the high efficiency of the E-GMP platform; at the same time, the new car also continues the concept car's electronic exterior mirror design (not all countries and regions can carry, China/USA does not allow (not available in all countries, China/US do not allow electronic mirrors).

The rear of the car has a layered look, the lines are still very hard, and the multiple lines across the left and right stretch the visual width; while the bottom bumper has a complex shape, the angular design is consistent with the hard style of the car. It is worth mentioning that the IONIQ 5 taillight clusters on both sides are also composed of matrix LED light points, and also incorporate a through design with the IONIQ 5 brand logo embedded, which not only has a striking effect when lit but also echoes the headlights.

Inside the car, the new interior design is refreshing and has changed a lot compared to modern traditional fuel cars, more technological and more in line with the attributes of pure electric vehicles, with its functions almost entirely controlled by touch or voice control; the most special change is the new integrated dual-link screen design, with a strong visual experience.

The steering wheel of IONIQ 5 has a unique shape, with a minimalist double-spoke shape, eliminating a large number of unnecessary lines, and the size is just right with the stitching process, giving the driver a comfortable grip; while the left and right sides are distributed with multi-function physical buttons, with a reasonable layout. At the rear of the steering wheel, there are also paddles to select the kinetic energy recovery strength similar to the Audi e-tron, so that the driver can adjust the recovery strength at any time according to his personal driving needs.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 officially launched with a new E-GMP platform/450km range

As the first E-GMP platform model, the Hyundai IONIQ 5 is bound to be a masterpiece, so the powertrain is available in four models: long-range version 2WD (rear-wheel drive), standard range 2WD version, standard range 4WD version and long-range 4WD version.

The long-range 2WD (rear-wheel drive) model has a maximum power of 160kW (218Ps) and a peak torque of 350N-m, while the standard-range 2WD model has a maximum power of 125kW (170Ps) and a peak torque of 350N-m. The 0-100km/h acceleration times of the two versions are 7.4s and 8.5s respectively.

The standard range 4WD version has a maximum power of 173kW (235Ps) and peak torque of 605N-m, while the long-range 4WD version has a maximum power of 225kW (306Ps) and peak torque of 605N-m. Both are equipped with front and rear dual oil-cooled drive motors, and with the driveshaft structure that first appeared in the new energy model, it can complete 0-100km/h acceleration in 6.1/5.2s. 100km/h acceleration and a top speed of 185km/h, while the maximum towing force can reach 1600kg.

For the battery system, IONIQ 5 is equipped with two battery versions of 58.2kWh and 72.6kWh. In terms of charging standards, the new car supports an 800V fast charging system (compatible with 400V), and with the new 350kW fast charger, it takes only 18 minutes to get nearly 80% of the battery power, while 5 minutes of charging can also achieve a range of nearly 100km.
