Rolls Royce

Earlier this year, David Beckham gifted his son Brooklyn and new daughter-in-law Nicola Peltz a £350,000 electric Jaguar XK140. The 1954 Jaguar was kitted out by Lunaz, a company in which Beckham is an investor, and boasts improved suspension, steering, and brakes, as well as being electric.

Though that hefty price tag is enough to make most of us weak at the knees, Brooklyn Beckham’s new Jag is just one in a series of lavish motoring gifts shared between the celebrity elite. From Lamborghinis to Bugattis to Maybachs, there are few more popular ways for the rich to flex their wealth than by gifting their friends and loved ones with cars.

Here, prestige car finance specialists, Anglo Scottish Asset Finance, have taken a look at five of the most expensive cars given away as gifts by celebrities.

Beyoncé and Jay-Z

From rare Hublot watches to private jets and even a private island, this power couple are known for sharing their success in the form of opulent gifts. Both are car enthusiasts – Jay-Z’s car collection includes a Pagani Zonda F, a 1957 Corvette C1, and a one-off Maybach Exelero.

For Bey’s 25th birthday, Jay-Z gifted her a 1959 baby blue convertible Rolls-Royce, worth an estimated value of $1m. Not to be outdone, for her husband’s 40th, Beyoncé returned the favour, buying a $2m Bugatti Veyron, one of only 450 in the world, and the fastest road-legal car in the world.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries

Though Kim Kardashian’s marriage to former NBA player Kris Humphries was to be ill-fated, lasting a mere 72 days, the couple were bestowed with lavish gifts from friends and family all around the world, totalling an estimated $700,000. One gift, from a Malaysian businessman, was a white Ferrari 458 worth $325,000.

Later news suggested that the businessman in question, Jho Low, had purchased the gift with stolen money, and was now a fugitive from his country’s government. Low had also purchased gifts for a series of other celebrities in an effort to rub shoulders with Hollywood’s elite, though it’s unclear whether the car was seized as part of the investigation.

Cardi B and Offset

When you receive a £152,000 car without knowing how to drive, it could be said that the gift-giver possesses more money than sense. This was the case with rapper Cardi B, who received a Lamborghini Urus truck from her on-again, off-again rapper boyfriend Offset as a 26th birthday present.

Having just given birth to a baby girl, Cardi had said on the Ellen Show that her ideal family car was the Urus; pairing the spec of a supercar with the functionality of an SUV, the Urus is the ideal solution for both family life and extravagance. The Bodak Yellow performer joked that after receiving her new wheels, she would have to learn to drive – we wonder if she has yet!

P. Diddy

Notorious rap mogul P. Diddy sits third on the list of the world’s richest rappers. It’s his investments outside of the rap game that have netted him an estimated net worth of around $900m (£689,872,500), however, and he is known for sharing his wealth with family and friends in the form of lavish gifts.

He famously gave Justin Bieber his own Lamborghini Gallardo as a 16th birthday present, worth upwards of £100k, and most notably gifted his son (also named Justin) with a black Maybach for his 16th birthday. The Maybach, worth a cool £220,000, came fully equipped with a personal chauffeur to handle the driving responsibilities until Justin passed his driving test!

Oprah Winfrey (Pontiac)

Topping the list of most expensive gifted cars by a good distance is ubiquitous US talk show host Oprah Winfrey. On September 13th 2004, Oprah gifted every single member of her 300-strong studio audience with a brand-new Pontiac G-6 Sedan, then worth over $30,000.

To ensure the cars were given to ‘deserving’ people, the studio surveyed applicant attendees before allocating them a ticket, finding out how they travelled to and from work. It’s worth mentioning that Pontiac provided the 300 cars, worth a total of $8m (£6.13m), and that the cost didn’t come out of Oprah’s pocket, but regardless, it constitutes one of (if not) the most expensive car giveaways of all time. Plus, this gift was a huge benefit for families who actually needed it – good on Oprah and good on Pontiac!
