Sri Lanka, one of the most captivating islands of the world, is not only a gem of rare beauty. It also consists of incredibly challenging topography that would spark some adrenaline action in anyone who tries their hand at navigating them by means of adventure sports. Here's how you can partake in some of the most adventurous activities in the country.

Battling the waters

Sri Lanka is a paradisaical island that has the luxury of long shorelines that pave the way to a wonderful array of watersports. It's where you can let the adventure of a lifetime begin! In this country, you can identify with the ocean by unleashing your smooth moves on its strikingly gorgeous waves. The mind blowing experience of surfing will leave you with splashes of excitement coursing through your veins. Arugambay, Weligama, and Unawatuna are some of the most popular beaches for surfing in the country. Whitewater rafting is yet another high-octane sport that is reserved just for the adrenaline junkies in the world. Kitulgala makes their dream come true with five major rapids and four minor ones covering around five kilometres. Taking the plunge into the whirl of white water rafting would be one of the most memorable experiences you'd ever have. For an ethereal experience, consider scuba diving in the tepid waters of the Indian Ocean. It may be an unnerving experience for the first-timers. But that first breath you take underwater would make you have a whole different perspective on life. Your fear will slowly fade into a surreal calmness as the weightlessness felt under the ocean transports into a parallel world in time.

Conquering the land

The land on which we leave our feet can take quite a different turn where the human habitats are limited, and nature takes over the world. Travel to Sri Lanka for an enriching time amid the scintillating beauty in the wilderness. One of the best ways to connect with nature in this majestic island is to spend several days camping in the Kitulgala Forest Reserve. Camping is an adventure in itself, through which one has to live under extreme conditions, away from the comforts of the day-to-day life. Any discomfort experienced would cease to nothingness when you wake up each morning to the birds' melodious chirping of the birds. With camping comes the jungle walks, the adventurous stream jumps, river trips, and mountain biking, all of which bring you the best things in life. Throw all uncertainties to the wind and go backpacking across the Knuckles Mountain Range, where a plethora of flora and fauna greet you. Nature lovers are warned- it's a site that would make you fall in love with this magnificent country all over again- deeply, madly, and truly. Sri Lanka offers the most scenic trails of nature that tugs at the heartstrings of the ardent lover of nature.

Glide across the sky

Hot Air Ballooning experience in Kandalama, Sri Lanka, will make your heart drum faster against your rib cage. Experience the thrill of floating across the sky, while you become stunned into silence by the strikingly beautiful bird's eye view above the city. Drones aside, it's the ideal setting for capturing some of the prettiest panoramic clicks for your memory down the lane. The best part of the journey is the moment where you take off. It's when you get to view the world beyond getting smaller and smaller, making you engulf in the colourful swirls of the world around you. It's an adventure where you realise how insignificant a place that you occupy in the globe, making you appreciate life in a whole different angle.

Be surrounded by wildlife.

Wouldn't it be terrifying to come across a wild elephant in its own habitat? That's exactly what Sri Lanka offers you when you go on safaris at national parks such as Yala and Wilpattu. Sri Lanka might be an infinitesimal part on the globe, but it boasts of some of the densest biodiversity areas in the world. Going on safari would bring you up close and- not that personal with the Asian elephant, leopards, and purple-faced langurs. Minneriya National Park is a must-visit for a passionate elephant watcher since it's highly famed for its gathering of giants. Whale watching in Mirissa will tantalise you with a spectacular view of the many acrobatics of the giants of the deep.
