Australia’s Yellow Water Billabong is home to a third of the country’s bird species and is part of the incredible national park. Home to over 280 species of bird life, Kakadu National Park is often recognised as the number one destination for bird watching in the entire nation. Watch the free, colourful and interesting life of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat and discover some of the rarest bird life which cannot be seen anywhere else in the world. At the Mamukala Wetlands, a 30 minute trip from Jabiru, lies an easily accessible observation platform which is the best place in the park to gaze at some of the interesting fledglings. Watch silently as cormorants, purple swamp hens, kingfishers and kites feed. This wetland is also a pleasure to the eyes of the visitors. They are beautiful year-round but it is at its peak in the season from September to November when tons of magpie geese dig for chestwater nuts.

Kakadu is known to uphold the culture of the aboriginals in the form of creative rock arts and this creative rock installation is primarily one of the top attractions in the national park. Some of these rock arts have been around for more than 2000 years and Ubirr, among others, is one of the top sites in the national park to discover some of the intriguing arts. The walk that leads to this unique site is full of interesting art forms that will give you an insight of how the world was perceived back in the days. Here you can marvel at the x-ray paintings, portraying the richness of bush food in the area like fish, mussels, echidnas and yams. In the main gallery, you can take a peek at rock arts representing one of the longest historical records of any group of people in the world. Before you head out you can also walk up to the lookout and enjoy panoramic views of the floodplains and its precincts, also a great spot to watch sunset.
