Named after Colonel Sylvanus Thayer “the father of the military academy”. The Historic Thayer Hotel is run and owned by West Point graduates and their families. You can sense the pride the owners have for the property. They each have a personal connection and have worked to maintain and improve The Thayer Hotel’s historic significance to West Point.

Carly Lemler Esq., is the General Manager of The Thayer Hotel. She graduated from West Point in 2001. She is an accomplished professional, mother of 2 and married to her West Point classmate. Carly has an admiration for The Thayer Hotel and its historical importance. She is passionate about the property and its people. Her welcoming smile and warm spirit shine through to the friendly, and hospitable employees at The Thayer Hotel. .

Dedicated rooms:

Guests can request dedicated rooms that have been designed around individual West Point cadets. Each room tells the story and displays the achievements of the graduate for which it is named. Some of these include * 1877, Henry Flipper, first African American * 1951, Buzz Aldrin, 1st lunar walk * 1981, Rebecca Halstead, first female graduate to become a general officer. The list of dedicated rooms can be found on the hotel’s website and requested at time of booking.

Just because The Historic Thayer Hotel sits on the site of the famed West Point Academy does not mean you have to be a special visitor to the campus. The Thayer Hotel is conveniently located near upstate NY’s finest wineries, breweries, orchards, and museums. Visit the outdoor sculpture park, Storm King Art Center. The Woodbury Commons premium outlet is a short drive featuring 250 brands and a world class food court. Experience culinary excellence at The Culinary Institute of America . If outdoor adventure is what you’re looking for, Bear Mountain State Park is only a 10 minute drive from the hotel.

Restaurants & Bars:

  • MacArthur’s Riverview Restaurant - One of the top restaurants in the Hudson Valley. The restaurant will be open for outdoor and indoor dinner service only on Wednesday - Saturday. Dinner will be available from 5:00pm - 8:30pm Reservations Required. To-Go will be available 7 days a week for the following hours: Breakfast (7am - 11am) | Lunch (11am - 5pm) | Dinner (5pm - 8:30pm)
  • Zulu Time Rooftop - Outdoor venue overlooking the magnificent views of the Hudson. Currently opened Thurs-Sun 4-11pm - dinner and drinks only. Reservations Required.
  • General Patton’s Tavern - As of October, 2020 this venue is closed. Please call in advance for opening dates.

Important Information:

  • Valet service is temporarily suspended
  • Visitors must present valid ID at the West Point entrance to gain access to the Thayer Hotel.
  • Hand sanitizer is located throughout the common areas of the hotel
  • Daily housekeeping is suspended, guests can request amenities as needed.
  • All buffet service has been suspended.
  • Afternoon Tea service suspended.
