Seasonal change: But which is better?

Are you a Summer star or a Winter wonder?

Seasons. A division of the year based on ecological changes, weather variants and the number of daylight hours in any given region.

The reason seasons occur on Earth are due to Earth's orbit around the sun and Earth's axial tilt that is relative to the ecliptic plane.

All rather scientific and often undiscussed between the average household.

So, why are the seasons important to you and what makes them unique?

The issue of importance on any given season is relative to the person or subject in hand. Why Autumn is important to me could be the very reason other homo sapiens dislike it.

With that being said, the list of reasons to embrace each season falls into the category of many and not few to say the least.

Spring

Spring is here. Arriving almost always on March 20th or 21st (Sometimes 19th), the first day of spring in the Southern Hemisphere is the first day of Autumn in the Northern.

Lambs, chicks, daffodils and Chocolate eggs; all something we strongly associate with the turn of Spring.

Full green leaved trees, warmer weather, spring showers and longer days. A fabulous equinox that leads to more days out, delightful imagery and babies galore.

A time to sow some seeds, bake some cakes and craft that yearly Easter bonnet.

Blow bubbles in the garden, take a short break and for the wild; indulge in a naughty skinny dip.

A time to get the wellies out and make use of those spring shower puddles, take a multitude of imagery in the rain and study the life-cycle of a butterfly.

Spring indeed is the season above all seasons to embrace change and appreciate the Earths natural cycle.

But, each season has its own unique traits and something for everyone.

Summer

Summer. The season of sun tans and water fights. Late nights and camp outs.

Endless den making in the secret area of the woods and mums pond rocks slowly disappearing from your heavy collection of 'Rock painting' building up in your room.

Picnics and farm visits, chalk drawings on your neighbours driveway and countless knocking on their door as you ask for the tenth time that day;

"Can we please have our ball back?"

Strawberry picking and tye-dye shirts, bike rides and a fine merlot as you watch the sunset over the horizon.

Family barbeques and walks on the beach. The summer life is for all.

And then creeps up Fall.

Autumn

Autumn. My personal favourite. A season full of apples and spooks. A time when dressing up is considered acceptable for adults and every leaf tells you it's story.

Leaf craft and baked pies, decorative fall wreaths and fields of scarecrows.

Apple picking for apple pies, apple cider, apple bobbing and caramel apples to share alongside your whipped cream pumpkin spice and roasted marshmallows.

Clear skies, stargazing, fruit punch and bonfires. Everchanging trees, forest walks, farmers markets and fluffy coats.

Zip lining, fireworks, scenic drives and horseback riding.

Halloween costumes and pumpkin carvings, scary movies and dark nights. Sleepovers, football games and convincing the local farmer for a hayride.

And then the wonderland.

Winter

Winter. The magical wonderland of snow and dark nights. Short days and pyjama days, hot chocolate and chicken soup.

Ice skating and carriage rides and for the lucky few, seasonal skiing.

Hockey games and open fires, sledding, snow angels, snow fights and snow days.

Gingerbread houses, bright scenic imagery and long mornings in bed.

Christmas Carols and bright lights, presents, gifts and charity.

Large cardigans and double layer gloves, scarves and woolly hats. Long cold walks and historical stories, early nights and indoor forts.

Our earth if forever changing and evolving. Images and times we witness that start with the changing of the seasons. The natural order of the world.

Whatever season speaks to you, take advantage of its beneficial effect.

Be it the blossom of spring, the sun of summer, the colours of autumn or the crispness of winter.

Seasons hold reason for us all.
