Nai Harn Beach

One of the Most Beautiful Beaches in Phuket

Nai Harn Beach is a small beach located on Phuket. It offers clean sand, shady trees on its outskirts and many shops and restaurants under palm trees just off its shore. Nai Harn Beach is a great place for viewing a sunset, spending a few hours in the sun or to go for a swim. The waters are usually very calm and there is a relaxing atmosphere with little annoyance from beach vendors.

In low season Nai Harn is one of my favorite beaches. You can go there some days and its completely empty. However once the tourists arrive it is a bit of a different story. The beach quickly becomes full and sometimes it is difficult finding a place to lay out on the sand. The waters also become quite crowded but a big plus to that is there are life guards present when the tourists start to populate the beach.

My first time going to Nai Harn I gave it a quick google. The photos were beautiful and I read that the area had a "hippy vibe". I never understood and still don't understand what a "hippy vibe" is. I figured there would be a bunch of old, long haired folks playing hacky sac and smoking marijuana at the worst case scenario. So I hopped on my motorbike and went to take a look.

When I arrived the beach did not match the description I had read. It was not a quiet area, it was packed with people. There were lots of shops and vendors up off the beach, they were all over priced and even finding a place to eat was difficult. There were so many people there that there was wait time at most of the restaurants. This was at the end of February back in 2017.

The next time I went to Nai Harn beach was months later. Mid July actually, I went with a girl to take some sunset photos. When I arrived I was quite shocked at the difference in the atmosphere. There was no one on the beach, it was completely quiet. We had dinner at one of the beach side restaurants. The food was really good, it was still way over priced, but we didn't need to wait at all.

Over the years I have found different things by visiting Nai Harn beach. One is down at the rocks at the South end. If you look at the video above, it shows a completely different perspective than you would normally see at a Phuket beach. Cascading waterfalls created by surf crashing over boulders, aquatic life living in small pools of water. Really a great place to sit and relax. One of the great things about this little area that is tucked down at the end of the beach is people rarely go there. Even during high season when the beach is loaded with tourists it is very rare you will see anyone up on the rocks.

Nai Harn beach is one of the nicer beaches on Phuket, it is probably my third favorite to visit and if you know where to sit and what time of year to visit there it is worth a go. Nai Harn beach also is on my list of one of the great places to watch and photograph a sunset on Phuket. If you are travelling on a budget bring water and snacks. The prices at the restaurants there are expensive even by Phuket standards. If you go early in the morning you will see many joggers and bicycle enthusiasts out around the man made lake behind the beach. Driving in to the beach can be a bit tricky after 11 am when it is tourist season.
