While the local usage of the word ‘spring’ varies according to climate, culture and customs, it is generally the time of the year when the world reinvigorates after the colder winter months. The countries on the south of the equator are getting ready for springtime and one of the best places to experience this season of vibrance is none other than Australia. It is a time when the country will be outright blanketed in florals, several events unfold, has generally lower crowds and offers endless outdoor adventures. So in the spirit of sharing here are some of my favourite picks for 2022.

Sydney, NSW

Sydney is at her sparkling best during spring. The famous jacaranda trees turn the city’s green spaces into a purple canopy during this time around. Temperatures reach around a comfortable 21 degree Celsius, with September being the months with the second lowest rainfall. It is also the time when Christmas party cruises on Sydney Harbour become a popular entertainment. If you're visiting in groups, there’s no better way to appreciate the breathtaking beauty of the Emerald City than onboard these incredible boats.

Other things to do:

Enjoy Oktoberfest, a Bavarian festival featuring beer halls, German food, performers and a silent disco.

Foodies can enjoy an incredible lineup of Australian international cuisines with Good Food Month and Night Noodle Markets setting up shops.

Whitsundays, Queensland

While the crystal clear waters and hot sand beaches of the Whitsundays are a summertime favourite, there’s a reason why visiting in spring is also beneficial. The waters will be free of stingrays, the temperatures will be milder compared to the torrid heat of the summer. The skies are also generally clear making it easier to enjoy uninterrupted days of outdoor adventure. September is also the perfect time to spot the humpback whales as they migrate through the Reef.

Other things to do:

Experience the high-adrenaline Airlie Beach Festival of Music featuring awe-inspiring views, live entertainment and a buzzing atmosphere.

Get your blood pumping for the Anaconda Whitsunday Trail Fest through the Conway National Park forest.

Melbourne, Victoria

Well, there’s no need to time your visit if you're considering one of the world’s most liveable cities. But in spring, the city blossoms and the cultural calendar reaches its zenith with the Spring Racing Carnival and the iconic Melbourne Cup. Suit up! This might be your best opportunity to rub shoulders with Aussie or international celebrities on the trackside. Most importantly, the elegantly manicured garden of Flemington Raceway is the ideal stop to sip on some champers while you watch the race.

Other things to do:

Indulge in art and entertainment with Melbourne Fringe Festival featuring over 400 events

Check out Hamilton (musical) which will be playing till December.

Table Tulip Farm, Tasmania

One of the highly-anticipated times of the year for Tasmanians is the onset of September as it is when the tulip season begins. Between the 24th of September to late October every year, you get to walk between hectares of tulips that flower during spring. This mystical field of tulips will transport its visitors to the rainbow-streaked tulip farm of the Netherlands. This extensive land of sweet-scented flowers is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful sights in the whole world! Just don’t forget to bring your camera!

From a harbour cruise with Christmas party in Sydney to the Airlie Beach Music festival in Whitsundays and the Spring Racing Carnival in Melbourne, Australia is brimming with destinations and activities where you could actually catch a ‘spring break’! Just make sure to book your tickets early for the ticketed events! Stay tuned for: “Must-see Summer Destinations in Australia 2022”.
