It wasn't a very long hike, although, it felt like it was. Our hike to the Hollywood sign felt like such a long one but I think it was just a little bit over an hour!
Coming all the way from halfway around the world, of course we didn't miss out on doing this!
We were told that to get to the sign, there were two different options. The first one, the route that we took, was the "long hike." According to Michelle (our lovely and very helpful driver), this was the easy hike even though it was longer because the shorter route is very steep, and going back down you won't have to go the same way as before and take the long, never-ending route.
The long hike was totally worth it, I mean just look at the first photo! You get a good view of LA!
As it was summertime when we went, it was REALLY hot. I mean, I almost gave up and headed back down because of the heat. This isn't because I've never hiked before, because I would go on hikes in Australia, but it was just that hot. The good thing is I think a little bit over halfway through the hike, the "hiking patrols" (because I don't know what else to call them) left a cooler full of ice cold water bottles intended for hikers!
So here's a VERY IMPORTANT TIP: before you start, make sure you have bottles of water to begin with until you get to the miracle cooler that gave us life and hope that we will reach the sign! I'm not sure if the cooler is always there or we just got lucky, so be prepared. Here's also a map and a few of the signs for the hike!
Honestly, if you're on a holiday in LA, you're obviously going to do this hike. So here's another tip: make sure you leave your hotel as early as you can to avoid the heat and the traffic on the way, it does make a huge difference.
After the hike, we went back to our hotel to rest and freshen up while we waited for dinner. For that, we ate at SUR lounge! And IT WAS AMAZING! If you're a fan of reality TV, then you would know that The Sexy Unique Restaurant has such attractive servers and actually, when you do eat there, it's not that cheap, but totally worth the money. And, no, not just because of the attractive staff members, but the food itself is amazing! A classic chocolate cake that just melted in my mouth had also melted my heart!
After dinner, we also drove past stopped to see the L.A.C.M.A
It was quite beautiful but we didn't really get to go inside the museum because I think it was already closed and it was actually a last minute thing. This stop was my sister's request, so I'm not really sure about any real information about this (sorry!)
And just for fun, we also went to Flaming Saddles in West Hollywood where I discovered that saying Jameson and Dry is actually an Australian thing. And yes, I think it's a gay bar because it was mostly gay men that were there with us and because there were two guys dancing.
So just a reminder: doing the Hollywood sign hike? Be early and make sure you have water. Hungry? Visit the SUR Lounge and Restaurant in Beverly Hills.
And as our final pit stop at our first stop, we took the bus from LA to Vegas where we had to wait for it across Union Station.
