In the streets of Liverpool

"All the lonely people, where do they all belong? Good night Liverpool, it was a pleasure!" Ale is running down the tap all night long. Prepare yourself for a huge crowd if you want to enter the famous Cavern Club. Welcome to the city of The Beatles.

Misty morning in Liverpool, we woke up soon to take full advantage of the day ahead.

How to Get to Liverpool

Obligatory stop for every Beatles fan makes for a great weekend destination. The easiest way to come here is definitely by air.

As for flights, you have two excellent options: John Lennon airport in Liverpool itself, or nearby airport in Manchester. From there just take a quick bus directly to the city center.

Airlink 500 bus goes from John Lennon airport every 30 minutes until 6 PM and cost 3£ for one-way ticket. Journey takes only around 25 minutes.

From Manchester airport it takes around 1 hour to get to Liverpool's city center. One-way tickets prices start at 3£. Be careful though, our bus was more than 30 minutes late.

Following Steps of The Beatles

Albert Dock, UNESCO World Heritage site, is the perfect place to start. After relaxing walk around the dock, stop in the biggest permanent exhibition dedicated to Liverpool's most famous band.

The Beatles Story is a must-see for every true fan. In the collection, you can find many original pieces, including band's instruments. Entry fee is 16,95£ for adults, 12,50£ for seniors and students and 10,00£ for children aged 5-16 years.

Magical Mystery Tour

Being Beatles fans ourselves, we decided to take a Magical Mystery Tour. Starting from Albert Dock is a great follow-up to visiting The Beatles Story.

During the two hours long tour, you will get to know the story of the Fab Four from their meeting, all the way to their huge success. The stops include Ringoland, George Harrison's birthplace, Penny Lane, John Lennon's childhood home and Strawberry Field among the others.

Magical Mystery Tour finishes in the world-wide known Cavern Club. In addition it also includes free entrance to Cavern's front stage on the day of your tour.

The tour itself is rather expensive at 19,95£ per person, but if you are a Beatles fan, it's well worth the price.

Liverpool 's Famous Cavern Club

One of the most famous club in whole world is an obligatory stop if you visit Liverpool. The brick arches inside could tell you many stories, as the club stands already for seven decades.

Beatles played their first gig here on 9th February 1961 and became a huge success. In total, they performed 292 times and made the club even more popular.

But it's not only about Beatles in here. Many big names, such as Rolling Stones, The Who, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Queen to name few, appeared on its stage.

Cavern Club full of fans who come here to enjoy great music and soak in the history.

Nowadays it still plays a big role in modern music and attracts famous artists. Among them are Oasis, Arctic Monkeys, Adele, Jessie J and many others.

The Beatles Statue

Back on the Liverpool's Waterfront you can find a city's favorite selfie spot! And what exactly can you see there? An iconic statue of the Fab Four, donated to the city by Cavern Club.

It's very detail-oriented. For example, Ringo's shoe contains an L8. Tourists can enjoy the statue since December 2015. The exact date coincides with 50's anniversary of the last Beatles' gig performed in Liverpool.

There's More to Liverpool Than Only Beatles

Yes, the city is mostly known because of them, but there is definitely more to it. As mentioned above, Albert Dock is UNESCO World Heritage Site. Take a walk around and discover why.

Get to know nautical history of Liverpool in Merseyside Maritime Museum. Thanks to the free entry, everyone can enjoy it. Collection contains boats, paintings, ship models and explains the importance of the port throughout the history.

Enjoy An Event in M&S Bank Arena

Right on the World Heritage waterfront you can visit vibrant M&S Bank Arena, previously known also as Echo Arena. While here, don´t forget to enjoy one of its many shows and events.

Our whole trip to Liverpool was mainly based on the concert of Deacon Blue there. And what a show it was! Deacon Blue rocked their performance and sold-out arena let them hear it.

Explore Exhibitions in Tate Liverpool

In the heart of Albert Dock you will find also one of the biggest and most visited galleries outside of London. Tate Liverpool is the place to spend time with all the family. The admission is free of charge, except of special exhibitions.

Collections are unique and enjoyable for fans of many different artists. But displays of authors as Klimt, Picasso or Warhol are not the only attraction of Tate. Special events such as talks and workshops (i.e. create your own comic workshop) take place frequently.

And if you are not such a fan of art, you can always get stunned by views over Albert Dock from the café.

British Music Experience

Not far from Albert Dock is a different kind of museum. Every music fan would be interested to visit, as it tells the history of British music by displaying instruments, costumes, performance and memorabilia.

The entry costs 14£ for adults, which is justified by its collection. Some of the costumes were worn by lead names of British music: from Spice Girls to Freddie Mercury and instruments played by Noel Gallagher, Sex Pistols and many others. You can even find hand-written song lyrics by Adele.

Discover the Georgian Quarter

A vibrant Georgian Quarter invites you to wander around with its elegant houses and two Cathedrals. Heart of this part of Liverpool is certainly Hope Street, which connects both Anglican and Catholic Cathedral.

Among other highlights are Liverpool's Philharmonic, Everyman Theatre and Hope Street Hotel. We enjoyed also the looks of Chinatown Gate nearby.

Chinatown Gate at the corner of Georgian Quarter visually takes you directly to China.

All in all, Liverpool is an amazing city to visit for a weekend and a must for every music lover. If you don't want to overpay for your next trip here, check our Guide for planning a cheaper trip.
