With all life throws out these days, connections between the love of your life are easily broken. Fortunately, these connections are just as easily re-kindled.

A little planning....

“One of the things I am certain to include in my weekly plans, is how I will spend time with my love.”

You don't have to go far or spend a lot of cash to have a romantic time. There are usually a lot of options close to home that are free or very low cost and picnic lunches are one of the lowest priced options and you don't have to look any further than your own pantry and fridge!

Each week, I spend a little time planning our weekly date. It’s always just the two of us even if all we do is have a little deck time, while listening to our favorite playlist on Spotify. This week, I was looking for hiking trails that were close but that we had not already explored. I stumbled upon a blog post for Beaver Falls.

Beaver Falls, Clatskanie, Oregon

The drive would be less than 20 mins, the hike was less than a mile and the author of the article promised it to be worthy and best of all, its free. I was elated and placed the plan on my calendar for Sunday after church.

Come Sunday, we rise early and get the chores done so we can attend church and start our weekly adventure.

We then put our dinner in the crock pot, made sandwiches and packed the car. We usually go pretty light. A blanket, our folding chairs, the picnic basket, a couple of bottles of water and the dog.

After a short drive to the trailhead, we arrived at the dirt clearing as the article promised. We locate the old post that serves as the trail marker and begin our descent down the trail. Although this trail is marked as easy, it is narrow, rocky and a little steep in some places. If you’re not a real hiker or not sure footed, grab a branch to use as a walking stick. You’ll be amazed how this little provision from God will give you extra strength and sure footing! And remember your camera or phone because you’ll want it when you get there trust me.

Sometimes you have to give the way to other hikers coming your direction but there are plenty of spots to do so. Before long, you’ll begin to hear the falls and excitement builds.

The falls are swoon-worthy and in some seasons can span more than 40 feet wide. The basalt cliffs are also pretty amazing. There are plenty of spots to spread your picnic if you’ve chosen to bring it. You’ll find downed trees that create natural benches and the forest is glorious. There are steps conveniently placed to help you cross the creek and you’ll want to do that because you can walk behind the waterfall and/or up to the top to look over the edge for a huge thrill.

Bridge across Beaver Creek to the trail leading behind the falls.

If you don’t take this opportunity to hold hands and wonder together at the extraordinary gifts they lay before you, I promise you’ll miss out. This is one of the most romantic places we have visited and look forward to going again. Take the time to savor the joy and amazement. Sit and talk about your dreams and you can even pray if you’re inclined. You can’t get any closer to nature than here.
