Shankaracharya Samadhi: The statue of Adi Shankaracharya, located just behind the Kedarnath temple, is one of the main attractions of Kedarnath. This statue is about 12 feet high and was completed in 2019. The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, laid the foundation stone of this statue. Adi Shankaracharya was a famous philosopher who laid the foundation stone of Kedarnath Temple and tried to integrate core ideas into Hinduism.

Kaal Bhairav Mandir: The Temple is dedicated to Kalbhairavnath, “the protector of Lord Shiva”. This temple is situated at a distance of 3 to 4 kilometers from Kedarnath temple. Be it Baba Vishwanath of Kashi or Baba Mahakal of Ujjain, along with the temples of Lord Shiva; you will get to see the temples of Bhairavnath as well. Your Kedarnath Yatra cannot be considered complete without visiting Kalbhairavnath.

Gaurikund: Gaurikund, located about 15 km from Kedarnath, is the starting point for the Kedarnath trek. This kund is famous for a small stream of hot water with a serene environment and picturesque views. Gaurikund is the source of faith for thousands of devotees who take a dip here in this kund and get rid of their sins.

Sonprayag: Sonprayag, situated at an altitude of about 1894 meters above sea level, is the confluence of the Basuki and Mandakini rivers. Sonprayag is also known as Prayagraj of the Northern Himalayas. Along with Gaurikund, Sonprayag is also the last stop of the Kedarnath Yatra, from where Kedarnath temple is situated at a distance of 17 kms. The famous Trijuginarayan temple is only 4 km away from here.

How to Reach Kedarnath:

The Kedarnath Temple is located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, is about 3,580 m above sea level. There are three best ways to reach here, which are given below:-

By Air: Jolly Grant Airport in Dehradun is the nearest airport to Kedarnath. It is located 250 kilometers away from Kedarnath. This airport is well-connected to almost all the major cities of India. After reaching Jollygrant airport, you can reach Rishikesh and then take a cab ride till Kedarnath.

By Road: The last stop to reach Kedarnath is Sonprayag and Gaurikund. To reach Sonprayag, first, you must reach Rishikesh; from Rishikesh, you can take any bus or local taxi to Guptkashi. After reaching Guptkashi, book any local taxi to Sonprayag or Gaurikund. From Gaurikund, you can reach Kedarnath by walking or by booking a helicopter.

By Train: Rishikesh Railway Station is the nearest railway station to Kedarnath. This station covers major cities of India like Delhi, Haridwar, Dehradun, Chandigarh, Moradabad, and Haldwani. After reaching here you can hire a taxi or take a bus till Sonprayag. Post route you have to cover by walk.
