If you visit the vibrant city of Kuala Lumpur you will find several ways to travel safely within the metropolis. The transport options in this city include light rail (metro) trains, buses and taxis; each will have its advantages and will be efficient in its own way. By using these modes of transport, you will be able to visit Kuala Lumpur's sightseeing attractions, huge malls, street markets, dining venues and other hotspots.

By metro

The metro will be a great way to get about in Kuala Lumpur, the Malaysian capital. At LRT (Light Rail Transit) stations, you will find large maps which depict all of the metro destinations within the city and its environs. Tickets may be purchased at the counter provided or from machines. You will also be able to avail yourself of a map, a daily pass or other special tickets such as the prepaid Touch 'N Go card.

There are three identifiable LRT lines within Kuala Lumpur; these would be RapidKL, KL Monorail and KTM Komuter. You will find that KTM Komuter and RapidKL link the city centre to the various suburbs whilst the KL Monorail extends directly through the centre of the city. Visitors to Kuala Lumpur are likely to find that the KL Monorail would be an inexpensive, simple and enjoyable way to get about.

By bus

You will discover that buses in Kuala Lumpur will take you to places that cannot be reached as easily by metro. Buses arrive at frequent intervals and can be used to travel from nearly all LRT stations. Travellers must pay the fare upon entering the bus; generally, the fare will be modest and it will be much more convenient to have the necessary change at hand rather than attempting to pay with large denomination bills.

The largest bus service provider in the city would be RapidKL which operates as many as 177 different routes within Kuala Lumpur. Another interesting option for visitors to the city would be the hop-on, hop-off double-decker buses which can be recognised easily by their bright eye-catching colours.

By taxi

Probably the most convenient, but also typically the costliest, way to get around the city would be by taking a taxi. In the city centre, you will practically always find taxis at each corner. The sole disadvantage of travelling by taxi would be the fact that some drivers are at times unwilling to activate their meters, particularly when transporting tourists.

However, even if you must pay a little extra, you are likely to find that travel by taxi in Kuala Lumpur will be affordable while also taking you to your desired destination. They also provide a convenient option to get to the city from the airport especially if you have a lot of luggage. A choice of accommodation to consider that you could easily reach by taxi would be The Kuala Lumpur Journal Hotel which may be regarded as a conveniently located 4-star hotel in KL.

By car rental and by foot

If you need to be independently mobile and travelling by taxi does not appeal to you, you could always rent a car from one of the various car rental establishments that you will find in the city. When driving your rental car, you should either refer to a precise map or obtain a GPS from the car rental specialist.

Strolling around Kuala Lumpur would also be a good way to explore the city, particularly its central parts; it's an ideal way to combine sightseeing, shopping and dining adventures. However, you should always be vigilant of cars, motorcycles and taxis and follow the road rules that apply to pedestrians.
