After the 77-day lockdown period in Wuhan came to an end, the Chinese consumers were more prone to indulge in "revenge consumption," a term coined by the Chinese social media users to describe the surge of purchases post-lockdown. Here are some of the things you should know about before entering Wuhan's fascinating shopping scene.

Goods you can buy in Wuhan

Turquoise is a semi-precious stone that one can purchase in Wuhan. The name can also be interpreted as Turkish stone, and these stones are often used on bracelets, necklaces, and rings. It is advised not to expose these items of jewellery to water as these stones are considered porous. Another stone type you can buy here is the rare, iridescent, nut-like jade known as Lusong. These are sculpted into small ornate items and sold as souvenirs in Wuhan markets.

In Wuhan, you may come across an array of streets and shopping centres to browse or shop to your heart's content. A fabulous place to go shopping in Wuhan is Jiangzheng Street, which is open for exchanging goods apart from shopping. Travellers from around the world can experience the charming attitude of Wuhan when bargaining with them. Located close to accommodation in Wuhan the likes of Citadines Zhuankou Wuhan is the Han Zheng Street, which is an age-old street that sells various goods ranging from inexpensive products to delectable food. Near Hanjiang Lu is another popular walking street called the Hanjiang Walking Street. It is 177 metres long and houses over 200 stores within traditional buildings that sell everything from food, clothes, appliances, and a variety of other goods.

A trend towards online shopping even after COVID-19

After the Corona pandemic rose its head in Wuhan during the Chinese New Year, many shops closed, and a huge growth spurt of the online shopping industry could be noted. The sudden increase in demand was able to be satiated due to the readiness of the Chinese supply chain and logistics network. Some online stores were able to deliver more than 160,000 tons of essential goods daily to their customers' doorsteps in time. The lockdown period has significantly affected the shopping habits of consumers by making them move online from their usual tangible expeditions, which would have taken them at least to more years if it wasn't for the pandemic.
