How to Pack for Your Vacation in Bali
Everything You must Pack for a Bali Getaway
Regarded as one of Asia's premier beach holiday destinations, the number of tourists heading to the sunny isle of Bali only increases with each passing year. Offering visitors the chance to engage in a variety of activities and adventures, knowing what to pack for a Bali trip may be less clear due to its reputation as a water sports hub and a cultural epicentre. From clothing options to the necessary tech accessories, here is a comprehensive list of everything you must pack for a Bali getaway.
1. Clothing Options
Although it may seem simple, determining what clothing items are required for a Bali holiday is less clear cut than one imagines. While all beach holiday enthusiasts environ getting by with as fewer clothes as possible during a seaside getaway, the local culture in Bali should give pause to anyone planning to take only a few bathing suits and sundresses to the island. The conservativeness of the local populace means that tourists must be decently dressed whenever they are not at the beach so packing a number of modest and unrevealing clothing options will come in handy for when one must go sightseeing around town. Entrance to Bali's iconic temples, for example, is prohibited to those who are scantily clad, so it is necessary to dress more conservatively when visiting such locations. In addition to a few casual clothes in cotton, towels and bathing suits visitors may also want to bring wet suits and other water sportswear if they plan on engaging in such activities.
2. Footwear Essentials
As in most Southeast Asian countries, a pair of sturdy flip-flops will more than suffice for a trip to Bali as one need to remove one's footwear before entering certain local institutions. This includes temples and other religious hotspots while certain restaurants will also demand visitors to remove footwear before entering. Pack a pair of comfortable sandals for semi-formal occasions when flip-flops may seem too casual and a pair of sneakers or hiking boots for treks around the island. Those who plan on tackling Gunung Agung and Mount Batur, in particular, must wear good hiking shoes while those who wish to go clubbing may also want to pack some heels or formal footwear as some discos in Seminyak and Kuta will not permit patrons to enter wearing sandals.
3. Prepare a First-Aid Kit
As when heading to any other part of the world, all travellers must have a first-aid kit or bag carefully packed away from clothing items so as to be prepared for any medical emergencies. Travellers who take regular medications for chronic conditions should pack enough of these essentials to last the trip while carrying the prescription will also help one get refills when the need arises. In addition to bandages, antiseptic sprays and motion sickness pills, all tourists must have antacids and stomach-settling drugs as overindulgence in food and drink is a part of every Bali vacation. Anti-allergy medication will also be necessary for those who are prone to allergies while anyone carrying antibiotics or strong pain medications should also bring along the prescription for the same.
4. Electronics and Accessories
Anantara Ubud Bali Villas and other resorts will most likely have state-of-the-art entertainment devices inside the rooms unlike most Bali homes for sale where most of the furnishings are removed. But bringing along your own entertainment and tech devices is also advised as long as one also packs the chargers and plug adaptors required for the devices to remain functional during the holiday. Other than your smartphone and tablet, visitors may also want to throw in a fully-charged power-bank to keep devices operational during flights, long airport waits etc. Don't forget to pack an e-reader loaded with a selection of books to serve as holiday reading material.
